BLURB

She’s hard up.

He’s just hard…

After an ill-fated one-night stand, Wyatt Landry was the last person I ever expected to see again.

By design, mind you, as I spent the last two years avoiding him.

He was only ever meant to be a good time—a really good time—and now, thanks to one teensy little mistake, he’s back in my life and wielding an entirely different set of tools.

It’s not like I intentionally hired a bogus contractor to redo our chapel, and Lord knows I never imagined Wyatt would ride up in his pickup truck, like a knight in thigh-hugging blue jeans, to save the day.

But here he is, and to make matters worse, he’s every bit as charming as I remember, and before I can fully process his reappearance in my life, he has my six-year-old daughter wrapped around his finger, my parents eating out of the palm of his hand, and my best friend shipping us like we’re some celebrity couple.

Thankfully, working in the death industry, I’ve mastered the skill of compartmentalization. Keeping my growing feelings tucked away should be a piece of cake. Except, seeing him every day definitely throws a wrench in that plan.

Before I know it, we’re trading favors for dates, and as much I don’t want to admit it, the feelings for him I thought were dead and buried are taking root and growing into something that looks a lot like love.

Daigle Family Funeral Services… don’t be caught dead any place else.

“Bye, Max.” I get out of the car.
“Bye, Harper… wait, it’s only halfway through the weekend. Maybe I should be a good realtor and show you the area some more?”
I lean down and through the open window on the car door. “What would that entail?”
“Restraint,” he deadpans, and I love his remark.
I twirl some hair around my finger and offer, “Well, I can bring my handcuffs if you feel it’s necessary.”
A slow-forming grin swells on his face again. “Something tells me that you are not even joking. I will text you, Harper,” he promises.
I nod with a droll smile before he drives away.

Masquerade ball rule #1: what happens at the ball doesn’t always stay at the ball.

Oops.

A chance encounter with a masked stranger at a charity ball led to an incredible kiss and a night of hot sex. The kiss was my goal for that night, a baby step forward after my husband’s death a year ago. The hot sex? Not so much.

You know what else hadn’t been my goal?

To be knocked up by a man whose identity is a mystery to me.

So now I’m preparing for my impending motherhood and planning a fundraiser to provide books for foster kids.

The latter is where hot hockey player Logan Mathews comes in…

****
The last time I saw Kiera Ashdown was the night of the Jingle Balls masquerade ball. She’d wanted her first time with a man after her husband’s death to be with a stranger.

After my NHL team trades me to San Francisco, where my daughter and ex-wife live, I’m determined to be a better father and not repeat past mistakes. My hockey career and my daughter come first.

The last thing I expect to discover is that Kiera is my seven-year-old daughter’s teacher. The last thing I expect to learn is that she’s pregnant with my dead best friend’s child.

And the last thing I want to admit is that I was the one who made love to Kiera—several times—the night of the ball.

Because if she ever found out that I’d lied to her, I could lose her friendship. I could lose so much more…

Decidedly with Luck is a standalone romance. All the books in the series can be read in any order.

Excerpt from Chapter One Hero Ever After by Sarah Ready

I love heroes. Everything about them. Their strength, their honor, their  devotion, their pursuit of the ultimate goal in the face of unsurmountable odds. A  hero always does what’s right, always wins, no matter what. Right now, more than  anything in the whole wide world, I need a hero. I’m broke, widowed, a whisper  from the edge, and my baby girl’s dying—she wants a hero, and by all that’s holy, I’ll  get her one. I’ll get her the greatest superhero of all time. I’ll get her Liam Stone.

I glance to the backseat of the car. Bean’s strapped in her car seat. Her sixth  birthday was last week and she’s working through the pile of comic books that she  got for her present.

“Do you think he’ll lift a car?” she asks. “When he fought The Red Spider he  lifted a car over his head and crushed him.”

I take my eyes off the washed out dirt road and look in the rearview mirror.  “I don’t know, Bean. I don’t know if retired superheroes still do that stuff.” Two lines pucker between her forehead as she thinks my answer over. “But  he’ll still train me?”

“If I have to wrestle him to the ground and force him.”

She giggles and I nearly lose my breath at the happy sound.

“Mama, you can’t beat Liam Stone. He’s strong as two hundred men, quick as  a rocket, and smarter than Einstein, aaand he’s devoted to helping the  misfortunate.”

“Downtrodden,” I say with a wry smile.

“He’ll be happy to see me. I bet he’s been wanting a protégé for years. All the  best heroes have ’em.”

I raise my eyebrows. Since when did she start using words like protégé? “You  let me do the talking, Bean.”

“I know.” She buries her nose back in the comic book. I can barely see the top  of her bald head over the bright cover of the comic.

I breathe through the pinch of panic that comes every time I see evidence of  her being sick. Push it aside.

Anyway, we’ve made it. We’re ten miles outside of Centreville where Route  511 crosses Route 511B and turns onto Pine Tree Road. Southern Ohio is full of  fallow land sold for cheap, you can snatch up hundreds of acres, and be left alone for  the rest of your life. Which is, I guess, what Liam Stone was hoping for. He bought  the land two years ago when he literally fell from Hollywood stardom.

At first, everyone in town was starstruck, waiting for the day he’d come to  Main Street so they could go gaga over him. But he never came. Two years on, no  one in town has ever laid eyes on him. And no one has ever been brave enough to  come out and introduce themselves—extend a neighborly hello. Nope, we’ve all just  left him alone.

Until today.

“Why are you suddenly meddling in my life like you know me? Because you don’t,” I inform him, moving closer, one hand rising up, my index finger pointing as I assume a power stance that seems otherworldly. Some self inside me is coming to the forefront.
And she has something to say.
Two of the people at his table turn and look at us, then start whispering. Fletch’s eyes cut over.
“Can we talk in private?” he asks.
“Why? Afraid of being called out in public?”
“No, but you’re about to get a bunch of cellphones pulled out. You really want more recordings of you floating around on the internet?”
I spin on my heel and move to the hallway in what I think is the direction of the bathrooms. Paleo2Clean is new to me, but before this incarnation, it was a soup restaurant, and before that, a froyo place.
Yep. Guessed right. High chairs and bathrooms.
“Look, Fletch,” I say, grabbing his arm hard. “Until our reunion last year, I hadn’t seen you in forever. And when Mal and Will chose us both to be in their wedding, I wasn’t happy, but I plastered on a fake smile because that’s what you do when your friends are getting married and you used to hate one of the groomsmen.”
“Hate?” A smile tickles his lips, his amusement infuriating me more than any other response he could possibly have. “You,” he says, looking at my hand on his skin, taking a step closer into my space, “hate me?”
“No. I said I used to hate you. Before I worked on evolving and being a better human being.”
“How, exactly, have you done that?”
“By increasing my vibration.”
“You are a better person because you use vibrators?”
“Who said anything about sex toys?”
“You did. Just now.”
“No, I didn’t! I said vibrations!”
“What’s the difference?”
“Enlightenment!”
“Pretty sure enlightenment comes from enough orgasms, too, Fiona.”
An espresso machine hisses in the distance, cutting through the sound of our matched breath. He’s inches from me, heat pulsing off his rock-hard body, the close-fitting black cloth of his shirt rippling only because of curved muscle. My hand on his arm feels like heat itself, our bodies some sort of element that conducts energy on a wavelength science hasn’t discovered yet.
And I’m wet, wanting, and so, so confused.
“Why are you turning this conversation into a sex talk?” I finally choke out, pulling back as he leans in.
“You started it,” he replies, the smile fading, replaced by something intensely seductive. He bites his lower lip for a moment, looking at me. Then, in a whisper that makes me lean in to hear, he adds, “Maybe you wouldn’t hate me so much if I helped you with those vibrations.”

Blog Tour: “Getting Lucky” By Authors: A.R. Casella & Denise Grover Swank, #RomanticComedy is #AvailableNow ~ @DeniseMSwank #ARCasellaAuthor #SocialButterflyPR

Fate keeps throwing Jack and Maisie together, reminding them of how good they are together

Getting Lucky, an all-new must read standalone romantic comedy in the irresistible Asheville Brewery Series by New York Times bestselling author Denise Grover Swank and A.R. Casella is available now!

One night. Just one night.

Or at least that’s what Maisie tells herself when she brings Jack Durand home. Because even though his arms are a thing of beauty and he can charm wild animals (a huge turn-on for an animal lover like her), she’s in no position to start anything with anyone. So she pretends she’s just scratching an itch.

Jack is pretending too. His little sister is moving to Asheville as his ward, and between getting her through her senior year of high school and working at the family brewery, he doesn’t have time for a girlfriend. Even a sexy, no-nonsense powerhouse like Maisie.

But he can’t stop thinking about her, and it turns out he doesn’t have to. Her best friend, River, announces his engagement to Jack’s half-sister, Georgie, and—surprise!—they’re both in the wedding party.

Fate keeps throwing Jack and Maisie together, reminding them of how good they are together . . . which would be a whole lot less complicated if she hadn’t spent half her life in love with River.

Excerpt

“You’re gonna make me a drink?” Maisie asked, raising her eyebrows. “I think I saw this play out in a Lifetime movie once. The guy made the girl a drink, and when she woke up, she’d been sold into some sex cult.”
He laughed as he looked in the cabinet over Dottie’s fridge, where most people kept their liquor. “That doesn’t sound like a Lifetime movie to me,” he said, pleased when he saw several bottles. Vodka. Gin. Rum. Triple sec. “And I used to be a bartender. I take it you like sweet and fruity drinks?”
Her brow shot up. “Are you judging me, Mr. I-Watch-So-Many-Lifetime-Movies-I-Can-Spot-a-Fake-Plot? Seems like I should be judging you.”
Turning to face her, he shook his head. Damn she was prickly, and for some bizarre reason he liked it. “Judge me all you want, but I’m not judging you. I’m just trying to figure out what to make you.”
Her face froze and her irritation faded. “Oh.”
He laughed, then spotted some lemons on the counter. “How about a lemon drop martini? I’m limited on a few key ingredients, so it won’t be my best, but I guarantee it will be better than Lurch’s punch.”
An appreciative look filled her eyes. “Okay, then. Wow me.”
He laughed again, and damn it felt good. His life had been serious for far too long, but Maisie brought out a playful side of him that had been buried forever. Tonight he wanted to pretend that he didn’t have a narcissistic mother and a seventeen-year-old sister who felt like the world was caving in on her. He was going to pretend he wasn’t creeping up on thirty without much of an idea of what the hell he was doing. Tonight, he was just a man who was captivated by a beautiful woman.
After slicing the lemon, he pulled the bottles of vodka and triple sec out of the cabinet. He rooted around the kitchen and found a mason jar and lid, plus a bottle of agave nectar since he didn’t have any simple syrup. He added the ingredients to the jar and shook it up with some ice, while Maisie watched him with an amused grin.
“Were you like those bartenders in Coyote Ugly who took their shirts off?”
“Sorry to disappoint. That would violate many health code standards.”
“So you’re a rule follower,” she said, studying him more intently.
“Why do you feel the need to label me?” he asked, searching for an appropriate glass to pour the drink into and only finding a wine glass.
But Maisie must have realized his dilemma because she snatched the mason jar from his hand and took the lid off.
“You’re supposed to pour it into another glass.”
She looked up at him with a smug expression. “See? Rule follower.”
Then she took a sip.
Was it wrong that he watched her lips as they cradled the rim of the jar? Or that his gaze drifted to her bare neck as she swallowed? Shit. That should not be turning him on, yet here he was, shifting uncomfortably and grateful his boxer briefs had shrunk in the dryer, binding him more tightly than usual.
“I don’t follow all the rules,” he found himself saying in a husky voice.
She lowered the jar and stared up at him. “Oh, yeah? Prove it.”
Jesus. What was she doing to him? Was she insinuating what he hoped she was? He took a step toward her, closing the distance between them and wrapping an arm around her back. When she didn’t protest or knee him in the balls, he slowly pulled her flush against him.
“Was this what you had in mind?”

You don’t know me, but you do know me. I’m your neighborhood hot mess single mom, doing my best to keep my head above water while running my little slice of heaven and keeping my youngest from shoving marbles up his nose, which is exactly what he’s doing the first time Levi Wilson, pop star god, world’s sexiest man, and my all-time number one celebrity obsession, walks into my bookstore.

Related: I’m writing this from beyond the grave, because I’ve died of mortification and am now residing in an alternate universe.

I have to be.

Because Levi Wilson came back.

And we had a moment.

Like, a moment moment. The kind that makes me remember that adult pleasure isn’t all about hoping the lock holds in the bathroom so your kids don’t interrupt on the rare occasion you feel like taking an extra-long mommy-time shower.

So when he proposes a no-strings fling?

Count. Me. In.

Thrill of a lifetime, right?

Surely, nothing will go wrong…

The Hot Mess and the Heartthrob is a rockin’ fun, sexy romantic comedy featuring a celebrity panty-melter who doesn’t know what he’s been missing, a sassy single mom hanging on by a string, three adorable children who would never burst in on a woman when she’s on a toilet (ha!), and shameless ovary-busting moments between a guy who never thought he’d be a dad and a family who thought they got along just fine without him. It stands alone and comes complete with a happily-ever-after (though you’d never go wrong to read the other Bro Code series books first).

One day. I would like to go one single day without someone in my orbit making a poor life decision.

Yep.
Lice.
Heaven forbid we have one issue at a time.
Adding to my list of issues? Being that mom who can’t get her shit together while Levi Flipping Wilson is watching. And not only watching, but actively engaging in trying to help. “Hey, bud, I bet I can hold still longer than you can. Wanna see?”
I know my agenda on any given day will include interruption for something my children do that I never would’ve expected in a million years, but that’s a lot easier to deal with when I don’t have an audience.
Especially an audience made up of one famous man whose songs get me through the day—and night—when I don’t have enough free focus to read or listen to an audiobook, and who keeps stealing glances at me like he’s trying to figure out what kind of rabid creature I am. Normally, customers aren’t allowed back in the stockroom with me, which is where I dragged Hudson when I realized what he’d done to his nose, but leaving Levi out there with the customers who’d figured out who he was seemed like a bad idea.
Especially when his date skewered me with a look that clearly said get him out of here or I’ll burn this place down.
It’s a bookstore.
Highly flammable.
Not taking chances.
Especially if there was a reason they were looking at maternity and early childhood development books. His date doesn’t look pregnant, but god knows that’s when pregnancy is hardest.
Hudson finally stills, and I manage to smear a little more Vaseline gently around his nostril. “How did you get a marble in your nose?”
“I pushed hard.” He beams. “I gots stars in there too.”
I squeeze my eyes shut and count to two, because I know if I get as high as three, he’ll find a way to suck the marbles deeper into his sinus cavities, and I don’t know how a doctor will get that out without having to cut his nose open, and oh my god, he’s four and he’s about to be disfigured for life because I thought he’d actually sit still and listen to Yasmin reading books for neighborhood storytime while I re-stocked a few shelves.
“How many stars?” I inquire through clenched teeth.
“Four. Or maybe seven. Or maybe one. I forgets.”
“You are so lucky you’re cute.”
“Do you have a vacuum?” Levi asks.
I twist my head to gape at him.
He shoots a help? look at his date, then shrugs at me. “If he won’t blow it out, maybe you can suck it out. Like with one of those sucky tools the dentist uses.”
“That’s…possibly not a terrible idea.”
“Happens on occasion.” He grins, which makes my heart basically stop because he’s stupidly gorgeous.
I could stare at him all day, but I have a preschooler with marbles up his nose to attend to.
“Mama,” Hudson says, “look.”
He scrunches his nose, which makes his nostrils swell, closes his mouth, and blows, and one shoots out and lands on Levi’s shoe.
My son has just snotted my favorite musician’s Italian leather loafers.
“I win! I holded still!” He breaks into his preschool dance routine, but the poor kid got his moves from me, which means to a casual observer, he probably looks like he’s having a seizure while choking on a piece of gum and tripping over barbed wire.
Levi Wilson, however, is not fazed. He squats down to Hudson’s level. “Rematch.”
