For the past nine years, Samantha Paisley has been playing a tiresome game of back and forth with her longtime friend with benefits, Alex Clark. Growing up in a toxic environment, Samantha never learned how to love or how to be loved.
So, when Alex tries to get closer to the fiery, foul-mouthed red-head, she cuts herself off from the only man she loves—not wanting to destroy the one stable relationship in her otherwise turbulent, troublesome life. But Alex will stop at nothing to have his woman by his side and in his bed, even if it’s the last thing he does.

My Review:

Damaged Heart (The San Diegan, #3)Damaged Heart by S.M. Soto

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 Stars…

First I will tell you that this book is not a stereotypical romance. It’s dark. It’s sad. It is not sugar and spice and everything nice. There are triggers related to child abuse. Truthfully, I had my doubts about a happy ending. But fear not because the last chapters were perfect. Damaged Heart was an amazing story written by an amazing storyteller. Author S.M. Soto can grab your attention and keep you engaged all the way to the end.

Most of my friends know how I don’t like reading a book if it is written in a single perspective. For me, there just feels like so much is missing. I don’t feel like I’m understanding both perspectives when only one is told. I like, no I need, to be intimate with each protagonists inner thoughts. I dislike guessing. That said, this book is written in a single perspective, told by Samantha, the heroine. Was I worried when this book came to me? Yup. However, since I read the prior book in this series, I was already familiar with this author’s writing style. So I dove right in. Actually, if I’m being honest, and I am of course, I felt everything. Every emotion. The writing was so perfect that I did not feel like anything was missing. I absolutely adored the hero, Alex. I felt I knew him well enough to understand his feelings. Saying that, you can infer I was not disappointed.

Samantha and Alex…..
I won’t get into specifics here because this book has so much going on. Samantha has been through hell in her past. Because of that, she believes she can never allow herself to accept the love of a man. Sam thinks she is no good. I’ll admit, for a lot of this book I did not like her actions at all. But I did understand them. However, I have never been put in the situations she found herself in at a young age so I won’t criticize her behavior even if I hated it.

Alex is tough and does not allow people too close. It is how she has survived up til now. When she met Alex, years prior, she still didn’t give her heart away. Alex and Sam go back and forth with their relationship throughout the whole book. Sam has many memories of the past that give us glimpses of her traumatic childhood. Alex was an amazing hero. To be honest I don’t know how he put up with her for so long. But even the most patient men have their limits. And you will see that while Alex is perfect for Sam, he does finally reach his limit.

What will Sam do now?

I really did love this book! Every moment, except for the horrible ones. This book is three in The San Diegan series. I have read books two and three. The first book is on my TBR and as soon as I have a chance I want to read it. I want to read how Alex and Sam’s friends found their HEA. I already know that is another tragic story. If you love books that will tug at your heart, tempt your anger and is written by a very talented author, I highly recommend this page turner, Damaged Heart by S.M. Soto.

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. 🙂

My Review:

Broken CompassBroken Compass by Jo Raven

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 Stars

This is honestly the best book I have read this year thus far! First, I will say I have been a die hard fan of Jo’s from her first release and I look forward to every new book she writes. Second, I will say that I have never read an author that even comes close to totally annihilating my heart the way she does. The best part is she puts my broken pieces back together. Jo has never, ever disappointed me and I know she never will. Her writing talent is just absolutely amazing. Jo will cross boundaries; she is not afraid to torture her characters. I have never read characters like hers. If you are currently a fan of this author, than you know exactly what I’m trying to say. If you aren’t, hold on for the literary ride of your life.

To all my friends…I would never steer you wrong. This book is amazing! This author is amazing!

While all Joe’s books are stand-alones, they all interconnect some how. There is always a familiar name or place mentioned.

Broken Compass is a new adult reverse harem. And while there are plenty of well-written sexy moments, this book is about so much more. The epitome of unconditional love and support. The development of their unconventional relationship is not rushed. That said, the tension and chemistry between these amazing characters is present on every page.

This book is separated into a few parts starting when the characters are sixteen years old and follows their circumstances for a few years. There are occasional time jumps here and there but nothing that left me lost or changed the steady pace of the book. As there are four main characters, there are four plot lines. While they are all tied together for a more than well deserved happily ever after, each character has their own suffering as well as their suffering and concern for the others.

Sydney, Kash, Nate, and West…..

Sydney is the glue that holds this bunch together. She was so young but at the same time, an old soul. They were only sixteen but years of abuse left them seeming much older. I’m sorry I can’t tell you more about what each character went through individually because I don’t give spoilers. However, if you have questions, you can message me because I can tell you there are many triggers. This book has many tragic moments. I promise there is a happy ending, so keep that in mind as you read. Even if you wonder how there can be a happy ending, I promise you Jo Raven does not leave you hanging.

West, Nate, and Sydney live in the same apartment complex and are friends. Kash moves in and their dynamic starts to slowly change. From the first page, I couldn’t get to the end of this book fast enough. With four main characters having their own issues you might worry about the author keeping your attention. Fear not! I couldn’t put this book down once I started it.

While this is my absolute honest review, I can’t claim it to be completely unbiased. Jo Raven is my favorite author and it is because her writing is absolutely amazing and every one of her books left me with the worst book hangovers ever.

Thank you for taking the time to read my review! 🙂

What reviewers are saying:

  • This one almost rendered me speechless, and for me that’s a miracle, I was blown away.
  • Its a very dark tale, one which had me with eyes boggling in wonder, and amazement.
  • …sit back and let the darkness invade your mind, and hold onto your soul in case some of the evil oozes off the pages.

He kicked her legs apart, so her wrists were pulled painfully against the leather bindings that made her hang from the hook above. Then, cold metal was clasped around each ankle. When Marea looked down, she saw a thick metal bar between two shackles.

“Hand me the scourge, please, Coal,” Brendan said.

Coal grinned evilly then passed Brendan something resembling a leather tassle. There were dozens of strands of thick leather dangling from the handle. Marea just kept staring.

Brendan waved it in a figure eight overarm, and it made a whooshing noise as it moved through the air. He slowly walked forward and Marea found herself cringing in fear. It managed to hit both her breasts in quick succession, making her gasp, and the sharp kick made her strain at her bindings almost immediately. She wanted to get away from it, but she couldn’t move, and it kept landing, over and over, biting her breasts and stomach, before Brendan landed it particularly maliciously straight on the exposed part of her pussy. She screamed again. As the pain built up, it flooded her thoughts, and she began to cry, properly, not because the pain was eye-watering, but because this situation was impossible. She sobbed as this more persistent pain ate away her calm demeanor.

“I like seeing you cry,” Brendan said, as he walked around behind her and began to punish her upper back and shoulders.

“Mmm,” Coal agreed, peering at her face. “Seeing you cry makes me want to draw out every tear from inside you, to force you to suffer until they’re all mine.”

The sensations burning through her back were somehow worse, but it was easier to remain still while he was behind her. Avoiding her lower back entirely, he then applied firm discipline to her bottom and thighs. She wailed as the burn got inside her, awakening her pussy in a way she didn’t want it to.

Marea cried harder as she dangled limply from the hook, helpless and utterly at their mercy. What she hated most was that her clit was beating in time with her heart. Her entire body stung from everything the men had done to her, but she was somehow aroused.

Why was this having such a strong effect on her? She tried to push it away, until something trickled down her inside leg, and she realized this was inescapable. They were going to do what they wanted, and regardless of whether the pain was unbearable, or how her body responded with longing instead of disgust, she could do nothing but accept it.

The swats of the scourge became harder and faster, and she began to howl. The men were unstoppable, and she didn’t know how long they planned to keep her here but—oh—her body tingled with a mouth-watering fervor, and her pussy twitched, clearly unhappy that it was empty. She roiled her body from side to side, wishing only for release.

Coal gripped her hair and pulled her head backwards, so her mouth opened and her eyes only saw him, blurry through her tears.

“Are you ever going to try to escape again?” he asked. She tried to shake her head but she couldn’t.

“N-n-n-no, sir,” she managed.

The beasts want to destroy her. The mirror-world won’t let her stay. The castle hides too many secrets. What’s a girl to do? And when Marea finds out how to break the curse, is she willing to do whatever it takes to save two creatures of pure evil, to whom she is nothing?

Marea Belle was doomed at birth. In Darkholm, having red hair means only one thing: Witch.

After her parents are executed in a witch hunt, the only thing that saves Marea is the chastity device that proves her purity. Spared the flames, Marea is dumped in a sack at the doors of a cursed castle; a sacrifice to appease the monsters within.

The denizens of the castle want nothing more than to devour Marea’s soul. The huge, terrifying beasts within take her to an underground experiment room and make her their plaything. Somehow, she survives and escapes the monsters, hiding deep within the castle, where she finds a magic mirror which becomes her sanctuary.

Inside the looking glass, she falls in love with two men. But she can only remain there for a few hours at a time before she has to return to the castle and the inevitable horrors within. No-one can escape the castle, and no-one can survive the beasts within. When Marea is forced to give herself to the beasts, she risks losing herself forever, but will her sacrifice be enough to break the ancient curse?

This full-length story is grim and a little complicated. This is a dark fairytale that tiptoes on the boundary between horror and romance. It is disturbing, bleak, and certainly not for the faint-hearted.

Aria is an author of dark erotic romance that dances on the boundary between horror and romance. Her heroes are not always immediately obvious, and neither are the villains. Her books often have elements of horror, and the characters at the end of a story are forever changed by the events that befell them. But she always makes sure there’s a happy ending, even if the characters have to work for it.

Aria also writes the warm fuzzy romance stuff as Katie Douglas, and writing as Katie, she has had USA Today and multiple number 1 bestselling books in the US and worldwide.

Charlie is everything I want and didn’t realize I need. It’s clear to me now that the woman I met at the club is only one layer of the woman I’m falling for. I’m a fixer by nature but for the first time I wouldn’t fix a thing. I want her just the way she is. Broken pieces and all. Who needs the fairy tale when we can have the reality.

Tristan is everything I want, yet don’t deserve. He’s loving, protective, smart, an amazing father, and he’s on to me. That’s why I need to speed this story up and tell him everything, so we can flip to the end of the book, and him and his daughter can move on to the next story. One where they get a happily ever after. Because there’s no story I’m a part of that ends in any way but tragedy.

My Review:

Clinched (Fighting Love #2)Clinched by Nikki Ash

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 Fantastic Stars!

Holy Hell! Oh. My. God!
I don’t even know where to begin with this book!
To say I loved it is a HUGE understatement.

I’m determined to write this review without spoiling anything for you. There was so much going on here and this book was overloaded with feels. There is tragedy but there is also so much laughter. I cried both happy and gut wrenching tears. From page one I was engaged. And the only reason it became necessary to put my Kindle down was because I needed to take care of my family. The nerve of them taking me from my reading, lol. 🙂 I will add this book has one of the very best endings I have ever read!

I have only read a few books by this author and I have loved every single one. Nikki Ash has an amazing talent for storytelling. She is not afraid to cross some boundaries or break your heart to pieces. I promise you though, she will do an absolutely amazing and satisfying job of piecing your heart back together.

Tristan and Charlie were two of my favorite characters of the year. Hands down, I mean that. I can’t say too much without giving you spoilers but I can say there are a few other characters in this book that you will love. There is no way you couldn’t.

Tristan is a single father. He is a great dad, a great friend. Tristan is at the top of my book boyfriend list. He has a protective and loyal side. He is kind, friendly, and so so sexy. There is no way you can’t love him.

Charlie has been through unimaginable trauma. She is guarded and wary of everyone and everything around her. All with good reason. Her circumstances gutted me. Completely. Charlie never saw Tristan coming. Or his adorable daughter. They both helped to heal her. They showed her unconditional love and support. I loved Charlie!

This is one of the best books I’ve read this year. While Charlie and Tristan’s relationship grew slowly, I never felt frustrated by the pace. In fact, this book would not have been believable otherwise. While I can’t say this book was relatable (for obvious reasons), it was everything I look for in the perfect read.

If you haven’t read this author yet, I recommend her highly. That said, I have read a few of her books and look forward to reading more. I only wish there was more reading time available in my days. Tristan’s best friend Mason has a book coming soon. I plan to grab that one as soon as it releases!

This is my unbiased and honest review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. 🙂

Irony – when life f@cks you over.

Jax

She’s the one girl I can’t forget.
She’s as innocent as a saint, with the mouth of a sinner.
After taking her virginity, it’s taken me four years to get rid of the guilt.
I used her while she was at her lowest and she’s never forgiven me.
Watching my best friend die a little every day, and not being able to do anything about it, kills me.
I should’ve seen it coming. The second I hit rock bottom, she walks back into my life.
The f@cking irony?
She might be the only one who can save Marcus.
The life of the person who means the most to me lies in the palm of the girl I screwed.

Leigh

Hate is a strong word, but it’s one I’ve really considered when it comes to Jaxson West. But I’ve settled for intensely disliking him. It’s similar to the way I feel about visiting the dentist.
Asking me to forgive Jaxson, is like asking me to willingly sit through a root canal.
He’s heartbreakingly gorgeous, emphasis on heartbreakingly.
He’s an amazing friend, just not to me.
He’s supportive, understanding, caring and loving, just not to me.
No, for me he reserves his dark scowls and low growls.
I’ll do everything I can to save Marcus, but I’m not doing it for Jaxson.

Fighting For Her by Dee Ellis

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 Stars to Fighting For Her by Dee Ellis.

Are you looking for a short, sexy read with complex characters and intense emotions? How about a dirty talking, possessive alpha? Or maybe a love story that will break your heart? Fighting For Her is all of those things. I devoured this book in little over an hour and when I was finished I wanted more; wished it were longer. I wasn’t ready to say good bye to Cress and Judge.

Cress and Judge grew up together, neighbors in the same less than upscale part of a small town. They were best friends from childhood and when they grew into teenagers, their dynamic changed. I absolutely loved these two kindred spirits together. This book was angsty and emotional. Dark and dirty as well.

Something will happen that tears Cress and Judge from each other until they are reunited years later. While I understood the circumstances as to why they were tore apart, I felt the years between could have been prevented. You’ll have to read to understand my meaning. My feelings are this was what the author wanted. I’ll admit, the separation made their reunion so much sweeter. I don’t want to give away any details since this is a very short book and you’ll enjoy all the angst and emotion on your own.

The author has a talent for portraying the passion and emotions between her characters. The intimacy was smoking hot and erotic. I finished this book with a serious hangover but complete satisfaction that Cress and Judge belonged together. I believed it, I felt it. I loved it!

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. 🙂

Born and raised in the Midwest, reading and writing have always been Dee’s passion. Short stories became long stories that finally, became books. While playing grownup during the day, meaning working a job, Dee wrote her first book. When not reading or writing, which leaves less time than she’s proud of, Dee loves spending her time with her four furbabies, her husband and lots of movies nights.

Synopsis:

Hard. Painful. Tragic.

This is what my life has become – purgatory. Floating in the middle of what could’ve been and what’s never going to happen.

My past dictates my future. Every step forward, guarantees ten steps back. Regret entwined with an addiction to bad decisions, living in the moment, and neglecting the consequences has become a way of life.

Ignoring all the warning signs, I didn’t see him coming. He was supposed to be a distraction, a bit of fun amidst all my chaos. But Elliot Ramzy turned out to be all that, and so much more.

*Deviate is a spin off novel and can be read as a complete standalone. The characters in this book are originally featured in Devastate*

My Review:

 DeviateDeviate by Marley Valentine

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 Stars to Deviate by Marley Valentine.

This book was intense and emotional. The truly only happy moments were in the end. That said, while there is grief and devastation, there was also hope. Where you wouldn’t think there could be a happy ending, there was one. Marley Valentine has a talent for writing books that leave you breathless not to mention thoughtful. She makes you appreciate what you have in life even if you think it could be better.

Deviate follows Marley’s previous title, Devastate. Deviate can definitely be read as a standalone, however it is connected to Devastate. by characters and some circumstances. Both books are written to gut you emotionally and do a pretty god job of that.

Elliot and Courtney…….
Both these amazing characters are introduced in Evie and Lior’s story. They are actually a big part of it. Elliot and Courtney have had a casual relationship because that was all each was looking for but when feelings started to come into play, their hook-ups ceased and Courtney avoided being around Elliot. After realizing how much he missed being with Courtney, Elliot decided she was worth taking a chance on. Only problem with that was he had to convince Courtney they should be more than friends. Courtney was not easy to convince. It wasn’t her fault however she had a huge amount of grief and turmoil to deal with on a daily basis. It amazed me how strong she really was even if she didn’t think so.

Elliot and Courtney’s relationship was hard to watch at times. Their situation broke my heart and I’ll be honest when I say I wasn’t sure this book would have a happy ending. It was a long and difficult road but when two people loved each other the way Elliot and Courtney did, it was for certain they’d find their happily-ever-after together.

I definitely recommend this book if you enjoy emotional reads. While your at it, I also recommend you read Devastate. Both books have a smooth pace with writing that flows easily, I’ll warn you though, keep a box of tissues handy.

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it.
