Synopsis:

Meet the infamous Ross, black sheep of the family and bully extraordinaire.
I drink too much, smoke too much, screw around. I’ve hurt people, been in and out of prison. I’m a bastard, a beast.
I’m a goddamn bundle of joy.
I mean, my own dad tried to kill me, what does that tell you?
Then again, my dad did kill my mom, so maybe it isn’t just me. Who the hell knows.
The world sucks and I’m giving it the finger in every damn way, except…
Except there’s a girl. Pretty. Hot. Clever. She didn’t get the memo – that she should hate me, shun me, kick me when I’m down. That the world screwed us all over. She believes in the future – and sometimes she seems to even believe in me.
Big mistake. I’m bad news. I made her suffer in the past, and nothing has changed. I’m not an angel, not a saint. No good.
But for some reason I don’t get, I can’t let her go down with me. I find myself trying to be better for her, pretending to be someone I’m not.
And if that doesn’t ring some damn big alarm bells regarding my sanity, well… then I’m done already.

* This is the story of Ross, half-brother to Octavia, Gigi and Merc, set in the Wild Men series *

📝My Review📝:

No SaintNo Saint by Jo Raven

Between 4 & 4.5 Stars.
I have been a huge fan of this author for a very long time. It needs to be said because I might be a little biased. She hasn’t written a book that I didn’t love. Her heroes are so damaged and broken. Their pasts are some of the most horrific I’ve ever read. Jo Raven is not afraid to cross boundaries. Her books are not for you if you’re looking for a sugary read. I guarantee your heart will break and you will be so angry. So, so angry for what her heroes have suffered. And in No Saint, that applies in excess. You have to wonder how these young men survive the lot life has dealt them. They survive because they are strong heroes with strong heroines who will support and love them unconditionally.

In No Saint,Ross Jones is just surviving his days and nights. This isn’t easy to do when he is constantly tormented. The bully is being bullied. We met Ross early on in the Wild Men series when we were first introduced to Octavia. This book can be read as a standalone, however, I highly recommend you read the previous books. Ross has been an important and complex part of each and knowing about who he was will help you understand him. Maybe forgive him too.

Without giving you details, I found a few circumstances in this book to be unrealistic which is why I’m between 4 & 4.5 stars. But this is just my opinion so please take this lightly and decide for yourself. In addition, I wanted to see the antagonists in this book get what they deserved on the pages and not just an afterthought at the end.

Can bullies be forgiven? Can I forgive Ross for all the suffering he has caused? I wasn’t sure that I could. Fortunately, the author painted the pictures of Ross’s past which put me front and center at his own suffering. God, I wanted to hold him and hug him to me tightly. Fortunately, Ross had Luna and after she dealt with her own anger in regards to Ross’s bullying, she helped him to heal. She became his support. Support which he desperately needed. One of the aspects I appreciated was how the author grew and developed Ross and Luna’s characters. There was a lot of pain, a lot of history between them. It took a while before Luna could forgive Ross but not before she understood him.

This book is dark and intense. Very passionate, very sad and sometimes violent. But I promise, you will sigh with great relief and happiness in the end.

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. 🙂

Synopsis:

Journey back to Neverland, NC with NYT & USA Today Bestselling Author Gina L. Maxwell as she turns your favorite villain into the hero you never knew you needed.

THEY CALL ME HOOK

I’m Captain of the Pirates; a villain by design and a loner by nature.

I don’t need anyone. More than that, I don’t want anyone. Especially Officer John Darling who insists on seeing the good in everything, including me. If there was ever any good inside of me, it was snuffed out long ago.

I’ve avoided him for years, but now I need his help to save my brother’s life and take down Fred Croc, the monster from my childhood and my current employer.

Now Darling is undercover in my crew, living in my loft and forever working out shirtless. Taking Croc’s operation down from the inside is dangerous as hell, but Darling’s probing gaze and the natural way he defers to my dominant side might just be the end of me.

But I’ve lived in the dark for too long, and no amount of light can save me. Not even one as bright as Johnathan Darling.

HE CALLS ME DARLING

I’m a Task Force Officer with the FBI; a protector of the innocent and a man in love with a villain.

Before I was even old enough to understand it, I had a crush on the broody teen called Captain Hook, following him around like a puppy and hoping he’d show me the slightest bit of attention.

He never did, though, not for years. Not until I became his only viable option for getting his crew member back and throwing Croc behind bars. Now he can’t ignore me, and he can’t hide the desire burning in his eyes when I sink to my knees, eager to serve my Captain however he needs.

But secrets are hard to keep in close quarters, and when I discover the darkness lurking in his past, eradicating the evil in Neverland is no longer my only mission. Come hell or high water, I’ll make Hook see that he’s never been the villain of this story…he’s the hero.

*Trigger Warning for readers sensitive to characters with sexual assault in their pasts. Please read the Author’s Note in the beginning of the book for more details.

📝My Review📝: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Hook (Neverland #2)Hook by Gina L. Maxwell

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Hook by Gina Maxwell was a very dark, intense and disturbing read. I will warn you….. for those of you who are triggered by child abuse of a sexual nature you may want to be extra cautious. While there is no current abuse, there are flashbacks. That said, the flashbacks are not all explicitly graphic, however the author is very talented at painting the picture regardless. There will be no mistaking what you’re reading about.

I praise Gina Maxwell for the boundaries she crosses in her writing. These details are not easy to read, so I know that are even that much more difficult to write. that being said, I read a review copy but I understand in the original finished copy has an alternate chapter.

This book brought forth many emotions the most prominent being anger, and heartbreak. So, you are probably wondering why I read such a book? Life isn’t always painted with blue skies and butterflies. Sometimes we need reminders that this world isn’t perfect. Books like Hook bring that reality into perspective. And when we are given a beautifully written, believable happy ending our feeling of joy and elation will be that much more appreciated. I praise this author for writing realistic and believable text.

Hook is one of my favorite MM romances. Hook was a character whose whole purpose in life was to protect those around him. No matter how high and despicable the cost. Hook is a criminal by trade but not by choice. He is careful not to let people too close knowing the end will result in more despair for him and those he loves.

John Darling had a connection with Hook since they were children. But it wasn’t until more than a decade later these two amazing men would be able to explore a relationship, albeit extremely carefully. I don’t want to give any of the story away. This is a book you’ll want to read without any spoilers. I don’t even want to comment on the last chapter; the ending. I will say that while I was pleased how things are going well for John and Hook, I am anxious for the next book in this series to assure me they are still going strong.

Hook is book two in Gina L. Maxwell’s Neverland series. The first book titled, Pan is Peter and Wendy’s story. It is also where we learn the dynamic of the Lost Boys, Hook and his pirates and the evil that is Fred Croc. Hook is a standalone but I think you’ll get more out of the story if you read Pan as well.

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it.

From NYT and USA Today bestselling author, Gina L. Maxwell, comes a brand-new series with a fresh twist on an old classic.

Once upon a time, in Neverland, North Carolina–I fell in love.

I was twelve when Peter first climbed up to my balcony.
Thirteen when I sneaked out to see him at the School for Lost Boys.
Seventeen when his touch made me fly,
And eighteen when his words made me cry.

We were magnetic, drawn to each other from that very first night, and what I thought would be forever. But when it came time for me to leave, he wouldn’t come with, soI left town with a map for my future and a shattered heart.

Ten years later, I’ve returned to Neverland, hoping to find a man in place of the boy.

Peter was partially right, growing up is no fun. After quitting my fancy career that sucked the magic out of life, I’m now organizing the fundraiser of the year. In a move that could make or break the event and my new company, I’ve hired Peter, master mechanic and owner of LB Automotive, to help me pull this off–trusting him to rebuild a classic car for the auction that could help hundreds of foster kids in need.

I thought I was prepared, but the boy who refused to leave is now a man hell-bent on getting me to stay, and as sparks fly between us, that undeniable fire flares back to life, deeper and hotter than ever.

But that ripped body doesn’t mean Peter’s matured enough to make us or this event work, and not everyone in Neverland is happy about my return.

Not every wound heals.
Not every heart can be fixed.
Not every boy grows up.

And after all this time, the love we found might be lost to us again…this time, forever.

Pan is an adult contemporary romance retelling of Peter Pan, complete with Wendy, Hook, Tink, and all the Lost Boys. There are no fantasy elements in this world, other than the “magic” that happens between the sheets. 😉

Gina L. Maxwell is a full-time writer, wife, and mother living in the upper Midwest, despite her scathing hatred of snow and cold weather. An avid romance novel addict, she began writing as an alternate way of enjoying the romance stories she loves to read. Her debut novel, Seducing Cinderella, hit both the USA Today and the New York Times bestseller lists in less than four weeks, and she’s been living her newfound dream ever since.

When she’s not reading or writing steamy romance novels, she spends her time losing at games to her high school sweetheart, hanging out with their adult teenagers as they learn to fly on their own, and dreaming of her move to someplace warm once they finally do.

Title: Curves Ahead
Author: Andi Jaxon
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: October 16, 2019
Cover Design: JustWrite. Creations

Everyone knows appearances can be deceiving, and in my case, even I’ve been fooled.

The last thing I need is immature man-child, Alexander Bennet, trying to smile his way into my pants. I hate everything about him; his stupid smirk, his rumbling chuckle, and the way butterflies riot in my stomach when he aims them at me. Our sparring matches go from maddening to stimulating and suddenly my mind and body are at war.

Unfortunately for me, my life is nothing but lies. Twisted secrets keep throwing us together then pulling us apart as we try to unravel it.

Will the one person I want nothing to do with, be my salvation? Or are we doomed to tear each other apart?

*if you have triggers, please proceed with caution.*

From Dyslexic kid with a love of Algebra to a published author, no one is more surprised to find me here, than I am. I love to write about tortured pasts and hot sex, a happily ever after that has to be worked for. My stories tend to be a little dark but with some comic relief, typically in the form of sarcasm.

My Review:  5 Stars!

Oh, wow! This book… incredible, intense and emotional. Tragic and heartbreaking.

Andi Jaxon is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Her writing is magical and she is not afraid to cross boundaries of any kind. That’s right…..she goes there! I’ll warn you now that this book is NOT a fluffy romance! It is gut-wrenching, angsty and suspenseful. I’ll also warn you this book is heavy on triggers. While the most graphic of the abuse stems from memories, that won’t matter to your heart. You will be effected.

Alex and Kristin…….
The prior book to this one features Alex’s twin brother Alistair and Kristin’s best friend Ben. That book was also intense in very similar ways. Both books stand alone, however you will have a better reading experience if you read Learning Curve before or even after.

This is one of those times where I can’t say too much in my review. I don’t want to chance giving away, not even one tiny detail. There are moments you won’t understand, moments you won’t even see coming, moments your heart will break and most definitely, moments you will be fiercely angry. Not even justice being served will ease your soul.

Alex is a police officer. Because of circumstances in his past, Alex does not want to get to close to anyone. Especially a woman. He has a reputation of being with a lot of women which is one of the reasons, Kristin hates him so passionately. But as you know, there is a fine line between love and hate. Kristin and Alex become close and slowly become more than friends. One of the aspects I loved about this book was that these two didn’t become a couple until later; their relationship slowly morphing from enemies to friends to more.

I would describe this book as an enemies to lovers, dark romance trope with a huge helping of angst.

Kristin has her own demons. Or should I say nightmares. Kristin is dealing with so much and her reoccurring nightmares are starting to bleed into her daily life. Fear is prominent but she doesn’t understand why and when we find out, neither Kristin or the reader will be prepared.

I promise you this book has a wonderful ending, but not before this couple travel through the worst of Hell. I absolutely recommend this dark, intense, and emotional read. The writer’s flow is perfect: you won’t be able to put this book down. Andi Jaxon is definitely an author you should check out!

This is my honest review. Thank you for taking the time to read it.

Happy couple under the rain

Synopsis:

I might be the one who swore an oath to save lives, but they saved me…

Saving lives isn’t just my job, it’s my whole world. Working eighteen hour days, I live in the hospital, running from patient to patient until I encounter a mysterious woman who stops me in my tracks. Afraid of her own shadow, I quickly diagnose that not all of her injuries are physical and the helpless look in her eyes turns my world upside down.

I follow up with her, trying to convince myself that my actions are that of a concerned doctor. But it’s more than that… turns out there is more to her as well. She’s a single mom, and the fear in her eyes isn’t just for herself, but for her amazing daughter. Before I even realize what’s happening, I’m determined to save them both and it has nothing to do with oaths or medicine. First, she will have to trust me. Not just with her life, but her heart.

** TRIGGER WARNING: This story contains mention of physical and emotional abuse. Although no abuse takes place during the story it is described, at times, in detail. **

📝My Review📝:

Save MeSave Me by A.J. Alexander

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was so intense and emotional. The characters were amazing, and I just adored Sophie!

Recently, I read my first Andi Jaxon novel and loved it. So much so that I will be adding some of her books to my summer reading list. With the exception of holiday romance, summer reading is my favorite time of the year. It’s the one time I promise myself to knock off books from my TBR, and read for pure pleasure. Not that I don’t do that already, but being a blogger/reviewer, I read many ARCs. Oh, please don’t misunderstand because I love to read for authors however, I like to just kick back and read my own selections too. Hence, one reason why I look forward to the summer.

That said…..This was my first collaboration read from Andi Jaxon and AJ Alexander. I know, right? Where have I been hiding? Under a rock, apparently. Nevertheless, I am so happy I read this book. Now I can’t wait to read an exclusive AJ Alexander novel.

This book was, for me, a darker read than I am used to. I’ll be honest, I avoid books with heavy physical abuse. (*please note, if you read the blurb that you already know that the majority of physical abuse is talked about but not actually on the pages) It breaks my heart too much. But this book came across my blog and after reading the blurb, I just knew I had to read it. Both authors did a great job at weaving this story, making it believable and giving us a well-deserved happy ending. Yes, karma is a queen not to be messed with!

I’m not going to give away any details. Not even the smallest hints. This is a book that you need to go into without too many spoilers so you can appreciate everything good that happens. It will only make the ending so much sweeter. I will tell you that the secondary characters (well not all of them) were charming and and added not only depth, but some humor to a story that is angsty and intense.

I recommend this fast-paced read. As I mentioned earlier in my review, I am looking forward to reading more from both of these authors, exclusively and collaboratively.

This is my honest and unbiased opinion. Thank you for taking the time to read it. 🙂

Synopsis:

My subconscious wanted him even when logic said I shouldn’t.<>/i

Alister Bennet

Loyal, reliable… predictable even, I’ve always done what’s expected of me. Stay out of trouble, get my teaching degree and build a respectable career as a college professor. The job comes with a long list of rules and at the top of that list is no fraternizing with students. Following the rules seemed easy enough, until a dark, tortured boy sat outside my office waiting for me. His voice told me it was his grade he was worried about, but the deep onyx pools of his eyes told me more as they shook the solid ground I’d always stood on.

Am I willing to risk my career, my carefully built reputation, to help one so filled with pain I can taste it?

Benjamin Wallace

Rejected, abused, and abandoned my entire life, all I’ve ever wanted was to be accepted, loved even. I thought going to college on a scholarship would be my ticket out of hell, but nothing good ever comes without a price. As graduation nears I find myself drawn to the mysterious professor like a moth to a flame. Just one meeting with the man that has been starring in my dreams has my soul screaming for him to hold me, comfort me. A relationship isn’t just frowned upon, it’s forbidden, but the heart doesn’t always know the difference.

Can I trust my mangled heart in his perfect life when my past repeats itself or will he destroy what is left of me?

*Author’s note: This is an MM teacher-student romance with themes including abuse and kidnapping. This story ends with a HEA.*

Learning Curve: MM Student Teacher RomanceLearning Curve: MM Student Teacher Romance by Andi Jaxon

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Absolutely amazing! One of the best books of my reading year thus far. This book has all the feels and some of those emotions were killing me. This was my first book by this author and I am excited to read more.

Being a blogger, I see many author’s names. I read many blurbs, and add many books to my TBR. This was partially what happened with this book. Except, the blurb hit me hard! There was something about it that said, “Hey, you can’t just add this book to be lost among the hundreds on your TBR. You are going to read it now!” And that is exactly what I did. Unfortunately it was late at night when I started and couldn’t keep my eyes open. But you can bet as soon as my morning coffee was in hand, I grabbed my Kindle and read on. And Oh. My God! Could this book be any more intense, emotional and tragic. I knew after the first few pages I was going on the best of literary rides. That said, what an impression to have from a new to me author. Oh, I have to read more of her books.

Alister and Sam…..
Both of these men are complex, well developed characters. I had no questions regarding their lives by the end of the book. Learning Curve was tied up nicely in a perfect happily-ever-after. One that was beyond deserved. Especially for Ben. Secondary characters added more depth and a bit of humor (from Ali’s brother Alex) which was added to lighten the mood here and there. Trust me, I needed that. Alister is a math professor and is in his late thirties. He is successful, gorgeous, loyal, loves his family and will do anything to protect those he loves. Ali isn’t looking for love because right now in his life, he feels content. So when 23 year Ben Wallace shows up at his office on the first day of classes, he is absolutely blindsided. For some reason, all of Ali’s protective instants are on full alert. There is something intensely sad and tragic behind Ben’s eyes. I don’t want to spoil any of the development of these two amazing characters so I won’t say much more.

I will tell you to be ready for an an incredible read. Have a box a tissues ready. And be prepared, because your own protective instincts will come out. If there was a way to jump through the pages and keep Ben forever safe, I would have happily done it.

This book is a must read. To all of my friends that know me, I would not recommend a book if I didn’t believe it to be amazing. So happy to have found another great author and can’t wait to read more from her!

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. 🙂

SYNOPSIS:

Once upon a time, in Neverland, North Carolina–I fell in love.

I was twelve when Peter first climbed up to my balcony.
Thirteen when I sneaked out to see him at the School for Lost Boys.
Seventeen when his touch made me fly,
And eighteen when his words made me cry.

We were magnetic, drawn to each other from that very first night, and what I thought would be forever. But when it came time for me to leave, he wouldn’t come with, so I left town with a map for my future and a shattered heart.

*Pan is an adult contemporary romance retelling of Peter Pan, complete with Wendy, Hook, Tink, and all the Lost Boys as sexy mechanics. There are no fantasy elements in this world, other than the “magic” that happens between the sheets. 😉

📝MY REVIEW📝:

Pan (a Neverland novel Book 1)Pan by Gina L. Maxwell

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 Stars!
Fantastic start to a new series. I love fairytale retellings with a dark edge. This book was Peter Pan and Wendy’s story. Because it is the first in the series the author added a lot of detail introducing us to a good number of secondary characters. I am especially looking forward to Hook’s book next.

This is not my first book by this author. I am a fan and love her books. This retelling of Peter Pan was original, entertaining and in some places, emotional. I would describe most of the elements as dark. The book jumps back to the past a few times, giving us the younger Peter and Wendy. I don’t want to go into details but I will say I loved how they met. Was it predictable? A little but but the dark aspect of this book gives us a completely different Neverland.

Wendy and Peter had perfect chemistry. I believed their story and hated when it ended. Their HEA was sweet and I smiled through it all. After all they had been through, they deserved it.

Wendy and Peter had been apart for ten years before she returned to Neverland. While Wendy was a bit wary to take up where they left off, afraid her heart couldn’t take be broken again, Peter knew exactly what he wanted. He was not going to let her walk away from him again. Of course they had to work on being together and despite someone trying to keep them apart, their love was too strong for them to fail at a second chance.

Tink and the Lost Boys, as well as Hook, and Wendy’s brothers, John and Michael, are an important part of this book. We are introduced to them when they are young children. With the exception of John and Michael, the others did not have a good childhood. In fact, it was downright awful. And if it weren’t for Peter, things could have been even worse than they already were. I am looking forward to the books featuring these characters if for no other reason but to be assured they have a happily-ever-after like Wendy and Peter.

The end of the book hinted to Hook’s book being next. He definitely needs a happy ending. From what I saw in Pan, Hook might have had the worst life growing up. I can’t wait to see what the author does with him.

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. 🙂

📝MY REVIEW📝:

One Tough Cowboy (Moving Violations #1)One Tough Cowboy by Lora Leigh

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 to 4.5 stars.
First let me explain my 4 to 4.5 rating. There were parts of this book that I liked and there were parts I loved. For me the reason for the 4 was because their were several areas where I feel the author didn’t give me the full closure I needed. Bottom line, when the end came I had questions. Unfortunately, I really can’t go into details without spoiling this book for you. I definitely don’t want to spoil it because the suspense aspect was amazing. I was constantly on the edge of my seat. There are definitely surprises and moments of “what the heck!”

I haven’t read anything by this author(s) before and I am so glad I have now. Wow, despite my few qualms with the book, I can’t fault anything about the writing talent. It was amazing. I will definitely be on the watch for the next book in this series.

Hunter and Samantha
Hunter is the small town’s current sheriff. Sam and Hunter new each other from when they were younger. But she moved away with her family. Samantha is back in town to settle things at her aunt’s. Her aunt “accidentally” overdosed on pain medication. Samantha is planning to stick around town for awhile and investigate her aunt’s suspicious death. She just so happens to be a Detroit police officer. Hunter and Sam will have to work closely together on the investigation. The attraction between these two is scorching. I am not exaggerating when I tell you there is a lot of intimacy. These two could not keep their hands off each other. Also, it was impossible to keep their attraction to each other from growing into love. I really loved Hunter and Sam together. Their chemistry was believable. Another aspect I loved was despite Sam being a police officer, Hunter still felt the need to protect her. Gosh, he is a total book boyfriend!

This story has a good amount of twists and turns. Surprises around every corner. And while there is some predictability, I was genuinely entertained and totally engrossed in

the plot. So if you are a fan of romantic suspense and a sexy as sin alpha sheriff, I highly recommend One Tough Cowboy as a must read.
