Title: Luke (Police and Fire: Operation Alpha)

Series: Zeta Security #5
Author: B. P. Beth
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: April 6, 2021

After the death of my mother, my whole world centered around one thing and one thing only.
Raising my baby brother to the best of my abilities.
So, when danger comes lurking, threatening the one person I loved more than life itself, I was ready and willing to do anything necessary to save him.
Tasked to infiltrate an illegal fight tournament as a contestant, I was forced to relive horrific memories from the past.
What I didn’t know at the time I accepted the job was that the woman I left behind, the one who owned my heart even after a decade spent apart, would be competing too.
Secrets are uncovered.
Old flames ignite.
Lives are put on the line.
Will they survive? Or go down fighting?

It was official.

I have lost my ever-loving mind.

That was the only explanation I could find as to why Luke Rus was currently in my apartment looking like a bull in a china shop.

If that wasn’t weird enough, the man looked fidgety.

Luke Rus, Mr. Confident, looked nervous. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Luke nervous.

And to my utter misery, he looked adorable.

“Nice place,” he finally said, making a chuckle slip out before I could stop myself.

Don’t encourage him!

“No, it’s not. But it’s home, our home, and that’s what counts. Now, sit down, would you?” I suggested, gesturing toward the rickety couch I reconditioned myself.

I knew I wasn’t the best host or anything, but it was Luke. It didn’t matter that we were barely on speaking terms, the man owned my heart at one point in time. He was my Luke.

“Uhm… sure.” He looked at me skeptically but did as I asked.

Big mistake.

Here’s what I learned from what happened next:

1. Apparently, my couch is not only tiny, but you need to be careful how you place your weight when you sit if you’re a huge man, because it tips over.

2. Watching your ex fall in slow motion is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen, and I’m going to hell for laughing my ass off first and only helping him up after.

In my defense, I never experienced that before because… well… I was small.

I was just about to turn around and head into the kitchen when I saw Luke throw his ass onto it, then the couch fall backward, taking him with it.

The man even propelled his arms, trying to prevent the fall!

Unable to contain myself, I collapsed onto the ground and laughed like I never have before. I laughed until no sound came out and tears were streaming down my face.

“You…” I shook, as I tried to get the words out. “You… are you hurt? Oh, you should’ve seen your face!”

“Yeah, laugh it up. How about helping a man out once you’re done?” he grumbled but I could hear the humor in his voice.

“I gotta say, helicopters have nothing on you. You almost took flight!” I bellowed in laughter.

“Shut it, would you?” Luke snapped, but again I could have sworn I heard him chuckle.

“Alright, alright. I’m done,” I finally said, then jumped to my feet and made my way over, stretching my hand for him to grab on to.

And he did.

Only instead of helping him get up, the law of physics kicked in, causing me to fall over.

Landing right on top of him.

“Oomph,” I grunted at the impact, then I opened my eyes and I knew I was in trouble.

Because it took my whore of a body roughly point two seconds to process that not only was I lying on top of a hot piece of man candy, but that man candy was none other than my first love. The man who could fuck the daylights out of me like no other… that man.

Our mouths were also conveniently millimeters away.

Luke seemed to have realized our predicament the same time I did, because I was ninety-nine point ninety-nine percent certain the thing poking my thigh was not his handgun.

Which reminded me of his beautiful cock. In my experience, that part of a man’s anatomy had no business being called beautiful, but Luke’s? Jesus, the guy’s manhood was magnificent. All hard, thick and veiny.

“Camilla…” he huskily whispered, licking his lips as he stared hungrily at my mouth.

Oh, fuck.

Get off!

And I shit you not, as soon as the thought crossed my mind, my hips involuntarily moved, causing just the right amount of friction.

Luke’s eyes darkened with desire, just the way I remembered they did. The man was looking at me like a wolf ready to pounce as an unintentional moan escaped my mouth.

I needed to get up, and I needed to do it fast, but my horny body refused to cooperate. She wanted to be fucked every way imaginable right then and there.

She didn’t care about the consequences.

To be honest, I had a hard time concentrating and thinking about doing the right thing, when all I could feel were muscles upon delicious muscles.

“Millie…” He growled and thank Jesus he did. Because that did it.

The use of that nickname snapped me right back to reality faster than a bucket of ice cold water would have.

“Coffee. We need coffee,” I mumbled, scrambling to my feet, and to my utter embarrassment, accidentally humping his shaft a couple of times as I did so.

“Coffee, my ass. I need a cold fucking shower.”

I promptly ignored Luke’s mutter, as I hightailed it into my kitchen like my ass was on fire.

Something is on fire all right, it just isn’t my ass.

“Just pretend that nothing ever happened,” I instructed myself under my breath while I waited for the coffee to brew.

“We most certainly won’t pretend like nothing ever happened.” Came from behind me, causing me to shriek like a damn banshee.

“Don’t sneak up on me like that,” I scolded. “Also, I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I added, shrugging and playing dumb.

“That.” Luke pointed in the general direction of my living room. “Was not nothing.”

“You came here to talk,” I reminded him, pointedly raising my eyebrow. “So talk.”

“That was before… before… we had a moment.” He growled, refusing to take a seat at the counter I gestured to.

That was a pet peeve of mine. I hated when I sat and the person I was with refused to do so, and stood instead. No clue what it was about the act that made me uncomfortable, but it did.

It made me feel on edge.

“Here are the rules. You sit down and stop talking about the supposed moment we had, or you get the fuck out. I was under no obligation to hear you out, let alone invite you into my home. I decided to do so. I’m also the one who’ll throw your ass out faster than you can blink, without feeling bad about it if you test me.”

“You haven’t changed at all.” He chuckled, obviously amused by this whole ordeal.

“Alright. I’m listening.” I leaned back in my seat once he sat down across from me.

“Since we already established that you haven’t changed since… well, since I last saw you.” Since you decided to break my heart and abandon me without a word. “I know that there’s no way I can talk you out of competing.”

“Right. I do have a proposition for you.”

“What could that be?” I scoffed, already not liking where this was going.

“I’m going to train you.”

“Like hell you are.” I chuckled, knowing where this was going. “I’m good, thanks.”

Me voluntarily spend time with him on a daily basis for weeks? That’s a recipe for certain heartbreak.

Thanks, but no thanks.

“Are you, though?” he challenged, leaning forward and placing his yummy veiny forearms onto my counter.

“I am.”

“Come on, Camilla. You’re a great fighter. I know that, because I’m the person who trained you to be one. But the men we are going to be fighting next? They don’t fight fair.”

“I already know that,” I argued.

“You almost lost against Trip last night,” Luke unnecessarily pointed out, then cut me off as soon as I opened my mouth to speak. “And don’t you dare reply with ‘but I didn’t’. You almost lost!”

Taking a sip of coffee, I remained silent and thought his words through.

He was right.

I was a good fighter, but I wasn’t anywhere near as good as he was.

“I have no idea what’s going on, and I won’t try to pressure you into telling me. There’s a reason you’re so hell-bent on competing, I know there is, because the Camilla Garcia I knew wouldn’t have decided to enter something like this for shits and giggles.”

Again, he was right.

I wasn’t known to be aggressive or volatile. Even back then, I only used violence when I or someone I loved was in imminent danger. As it should be used.

Luke must have mistaken my silence as me disagreeing with him, because he took my free hand that wasn’t wrapped around my coffee mug into his.

“I want to help you, Camilla. I need to help you. I swear I won’t overstep, just let me help you.”

If this was any other situation I would have wrenched my hand away like he burned me, but the sincerity in his dark eyes made it impossible.

There was something in those eyes of his that pulled me in, something that hadn’t been there a decade ago.

Which is why I found myself nodding and saying, “You’re right. I do need your help. Can you please train me?”

What I’ll never forget was the way his eyes lit up with childlike joy as the words left my mouth.

Reaper didn’t think it was possible to be deceived by anything, or anyone, after the hell he had gone through. Ginny had proven him wrong. Not only wasn’t she the woman he believed her to be, but she had also sacrificed herself to pay for his crimes. The only part of finding out who Ginny was that didn’t surprise him was that she was a thief. He already knew that—she had been stealing bits and pieces of his soul since he’d met her. And not only had Ginny wrecked the peace he had promised himself, but she also turned his life in a tailspin as he fought to keep her safe from an enemy from her past.
Ginny didn’t think it was possible to love Gavin more than she already did. He proved her wrong. The only problem was … who was going to protect her from Reaper? Every part of her being loved Gavin, yet it was Reaper who was turning her life in a tailspin. Determined to claim her soul while refusing to relinquish his, Ginny found herself engaged in a battle of wills that she was willing to fight to win until death.
The battle between soulmates is never a pretty thing. In battles, there are always winners and losers. Ginny and Reaper are going to have to decide if the price of winning the battle is worth the cost or lose the ultimate prize—eternity.

“I was born in a small town in Kentucky. My family began poor, but worked their way to owning a restaurant. My mother was one of the best cooks I have ever known, and she instilled in all her children the value of hard work, and education.

Taking after my mother, I’ve always loved to cook, and became pretty good if I do say so myself. I love to experiment and my unfortunate family has suffered through many. They now have learned to steer clear of those dishes. I absolutely love the holidays and my family puts up with my zany decorations.

For now, my days are spent writing, writing, and writing. I have two children, my daughter is also an author, and my son just tries not to blush when someone asks him about my books.

All my books are written for one purpose- the enjoyment others find in them, and the expectations of my fans that inspire me to give it my best.”

My 📝Review📝: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I loved this book so much! Devoured it in hours! The Greene family is so easy to love. Truth? After reading the Bailey series by this author, I didn’t think they could top it. But I should have known better because with Piper Rayne almost each new book becomes my favorite.

Adam and Lucy’s story was amazing. Angsty, emotional, and sad at times. Not for a single moment did I believe Lucy left Adam because of anything he had done. He was so devastated by her leaving the way she did. And boy was it a shock to everyone when she returned with amnesia. I appreciated the way Adam behaved because it was realistic. And while there is definitely angst, my feeling is that it is moderate which is my preference.

With the rest of the Greene family all up in Adam and Lucy’s business, the serious tone of the story had plenty of humor to balance the plot.

I don’t want to say too much because I want you to go into the story without spoilers. Really, I thought this was an incredible story and am already eager to reread. That said, I’m so excited for what comes next in the Greene family. While these books can be enjoyed as a standalone, you should definitely start at the beginning with Hank and Marla’s novella and see how it all started. You do that and you will only enhance your reading pleasure.

Having read an advanced reading copy of this novel, I can assure you that this is my honest and unbiased review and I thank you for taking the time to read it. 🙂

Title: Trusting My Friend

Author: Amanda Martinez
Genre: New Adult Clean Romance
Release Date: April 5, 2021
Cover Design: Emily Wittig

After a difficult and traumatic high school experience, Alexia Jamieson is finally ready to head off to college, getting away from her parents and living her own life. Not only did she suffer an assault, she was bullied by people she thought were her friends.

Kayden Owens has always known Alexia has been his best friend and losing her for a few years didn’t change his feelings. Showing up at the same university, states away from their hometown, he tries to reconnect with her. In doing so, he finds out she is already dating another and seemingly moving on.
As she begins to reconnect with Kayden, Alexia struggles over her feelings of dating another guy and having her best friend back in her life; things seem different than they once were, leaving her conflicted.
With the possibility of a relationship at stake, Alexia and Kayden need to overcome what was in the past, including the trust issues that have resurfaced for her. As a love triangle starts to develop, Alexia has a decision to make if she wants her best friend by her side.

Once the bell rings, I grab my bag and head out the door, turning to go outside to hang out with friends during lunch. I practically run through the halls, not even stopping at my locker to put my books away. I don’t watch where I am going and suddenly, I’m stepping backwards to avoid falling.

“Ow.” I hear a girl say. “Watch where you’re going,” she mumbles before stepping around me.

As she’s walking away, I turn around to see Alexia Jamieson, the richest girl in school. She’s changed. When we got back from winter break during our freshman year, she came back with shorter hair and it had been a dark red, such a difference from the long, light brown hair it had originally been. Her hair is still red, but it’s longer now, and I see a streak of dark blue hidden under the curls.

Alexia was the head cheerleader and popular girl in our friend group at the beginning of freshman year, but then something changed—not only her hair, but something else—and she stopped hanging out with us and dropped cheerleading. I noticed that everyone in our group started being mean to her and bullying her. Why? I have no fucking clue.

As though she feels me staring, she turns around and starts walking back toward me.

“What is your problem? You practically run into me and then don’t even apologize and then you stare at me?” She waits for a second for an answer, but I don’t even get a chance to say anything when she starts talking again. “What happened Owens? Cat got your tongue? Do you even know who I am or are you like everyone else who just calls me names?”

She is on the verge of tears and yelling. I am so glad everyone is at lunch and nobody can see this exchange.

“Lexi,” I start saying quietly while lifting my hand up towards her. She shies away and I drop my hand.

“Don’t call me that,” she snaps at me.

I don’t know what to say. She closes her eyes and I can see tears in the edges. She turns on her heels and runs away from me, not giving me a chance to talk.

“I’m sorry,” I whisper into the air, knowing she doesn’t hear me.

Once downstairs, I slip out the back door. Tate is still swimming laps and hasn’t noticed me yet. I stop at the edge of the pool, right by the diving board. Tate swims toward me and stops at the edge, lifting his head out of the water.

He swipes a hand over his face and smiles up at me. “Hey. I didn’t know you were going to come out here.”

I shrug. “I finished my phone calls early. Thought I’d enjoy the night air.” I flourish a hand about the pool. “Do you swim a lot?”

Still looking up at me, he rests his arms over the edge. “All the time. You should jump in.

“That’s okay,” I say, laughing as I glance down at my clothes. “I didn’t bring a swimsuit.” Total lie, but it’s all I can think of to get out of swimming.

A wolfish grin spreads across his face. “Oh, you don’t need a bathing suit.” I don’t have time to react before he grabs my legs and tosses me into the pool. The water muffles my screams.

I surface fast and splash him in the face. “You’re such an asshole.”

He splashes me back, and a water war ensues. “You should’ve known better than to stand near the edge.”

Laughing, I charge after him and push him under. He reaches around me and takes me with him. His deep laugh echoes under the water, and I smile. I don’t want to fight against him with his arms around me, but I can’t let him know how good it feels. Pushing him away, I swim over to the edge, and he does the same, only leaving about two feet between us. He looks at me and laughs, and I splash him one more time.

“I’ll pay you back for this,” I tell him.

He winks. “I look forward to it.” We stare at each other for a few seconds, and then his expression turns serious. “There’s something I want to talk to you about.”

My heart stops, and I hold my breath. “What is it?”

His eyes flash to his wolf’s, and when he closes and opens them back up, they’re his usual bright blue. “Anson asked me today if I’d let you spend time with the other males in the pack.”

Taking a deep breath, I let it out slowly. “And what did you say?”

He looks away. “I told him no.”

Heart racing, I freeze. When his eyes meet mine, it’s like he can sense how much I want him. His need washes over me, drawing me closer. “Why did you say no?”

This time, he’s the one who swims closer. We’re now only a foot apart. “I said no because I don’t want to share you. But then, it’s not my place to deny you. If you wish to spend time with my pack, I won’t stop you.” Mouth gaping, I can’t find the words to say. He moves closer, and we’re only a breath apart. I can feel the heat from his lips. “I wish you knew how fucking bad I want you as my mate. Your face is all I see when I close my eyes at night.” I want to kiss him, but he swims away and gets out of the pool. His swim shorts ride low on his hips, and I can’t hide my attraction to him. Even the cool water can’t ease off the heat of my skin. He picks up his towel and runs it over his face. “I can sense what your body does around me. It drives me crazy not to act on it.” Still keeping his back to me, he turns his head to the side but doesn’t fully look at me. “What kind of mate do you want, Faith?”

I don’t want to lie to him. Climbing out of the pool, I walk over to him, but he still keeps his back to me. “If I had my choice, I’d want someone like you.” A few seconds pass, and I resist the urge to touch him. It gets harder and harder the longer I’m around him.
