Synopsis:

When Laurel West discovers her estranged sister Abby has checked herself into rehab and wants her to take care of her fourteen-year-old son, she doesn’t hesitate to step in. Abby was there for Laurel a long time ago, and she longs to be able to offer the same. However, as a single woman who still dreams of the fairy tale, Laurel isn’t prepared for teenaged Zac’s sullen moods or silent rage. When he’s expelled from school, she decides to take drastic measures and temporarily relocate them to her great aunt’s cottage on the windswept hills of the Orkney islands north of Scotland… about as far as she can run from their problems, but will it be far enough?

From the moment they step onto the island’s shores, everything seems to go wrong… including a run-in with eccentric sheep farmer Archie MacDougall. When Zac gets in trouble at the village pub and is rescued by Archie, Laurel thinks things are only getting worse. But Archie’s suggestion of putting Zach to work on his farm might be the change he needs, and Laurel strikes up a surprising friendship with a man who is about as far from the fairy tale as she can imagine. Can such an unlikely and impractical love bloom in such a brief moment out of reality? And will two lost and lonely souls find each other at the edge of the world?

📝My Review📝:

Christmas at the Edge of the WorldChristmas at the Edge of the World by Kate Hewitt

3.8 Stars…..
As you have read in the blurb, Laurel is asked by her estranged sister to take care of her fourteen year old nephew for a month. To say Laurel is shocked is an understatement. She has seen or heard from her sister only a handful of times over the past twenty years. So why now? This is one piece of the puzzle that you’ll find the answer to later in the book. Laurel’s nephew Zac is a stereotypical, moody teenaged boy. He is not thrilled when Laurel takes him to Scotland to celebrate the Christmas holidays at her aunt’s charming cottage. At least she remembered it being charming when she was eight years old; the last time she visited. Her time spent at this place is one of Laurel’s fondest childhood memories. But she hasn’t been back in over two decades and the place is not exactly how she remembered it. However, for her nephew, she is going to make the best of it. With a heaping amount of Christmas spirit and some help from a neighbor, Archie, the story progresses in that Archie is an important part of how things work out. I don’t want to say too much because this book is pretty short. The premise had great potential but unfortunately, the author only gave us Laurel’s perspective which I was greatly disappointed over. I believe that if I had Archie’s POV as well as Laurel’s, it would have gone a long way in bringing me greater enjoyment. Archie was a very strong part of this story. His complexity was more than enough that she should have had a voice as well. And while the ending was a happy one, it wasn’t satisfying. That said, I enjoyed the epilogue and was glad to see everyone together.

I would like to also mention that this author does a good job at painting her scenes. In my mind, I was able to experience the quaint cottage and small Scottish town. The book cover is realistic to the story and that is not always the case. So, while I didn’t entirely love this book, I liked it.

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. 🙂

25 Reasons to Hate Christmas and Cowboys25 Reasons to Hate Christmas and Cowboys by Elle Thorpe

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Isabel has twenty-five reasons why she hates Christmas. And if I were in her shoes, I might just feel the same way. It won’t be easy to change her mind after so many years of disappointments. But then again, she hadn’t met Johnny West yet. Once Johnny meets Isabel, to say he is interested is an understatement. There is something about her that draws him in close. Johnny is determined to give Isabel twenty-five reasons of his own why she should love Christmas. And if he should get her to love him as well, then that’s a true win.

I’m just going to say it, Johnny had me smiling and giddy from his first moments on the page. He was adorable. Johnny was a gorgeous, well-built, hunky cowboy but the aspect of his persona that truly won me over was his generous heart and considerate nature. Like I said, he was adorable.

I don’t need to repeat all that’s in the synopsis because the author does a great job with that. The premise is pretty sweet and the story well-written. There is a bit of angst, but not much. Overall, this book was a light, endearing read and I enjoyed it very much. I definitely recommend this. I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future.

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time torrid it. 🙂

Synopsis:

Journey back to Neverland, NC with NYT & USA Today Bestselling Author Gina L. Maxwell as she turns your favorite villain into the hero you never knew you needed.

THEY CALL ME HOOK

I’m Captain of the Pirates; a villain by design and a loner by nature.

I don’t need anyone. More than that, I don’t want anyone. Especially Officer John Darling who insists on seeing the good in everything, including me. If there was ever any good inside of me, it was snuffed out long ago.

I’ve avoided him for years, but now I need his help to save my brother’s life and take down Fred Croc, the monster from my childhood and my current employer.

Now Darling is undercover in my crew, living in my loft and forever working out shirtless. Taking Croc’s operation down from the inside is dangerous as hell, but Darling’s probing gaze and the natural way he defers to my dominant side might just be the end of me.

But I’ve lived in the dark for too long, and no amount of light can save me. Not even one as bright as Johnathan Darling.

HE CALLS ME DARLING

I’m a Task Force Officer with the FBI; a protector of the innocent and a man in love with a villain.

Before I was even old enough to understand it, I had a crush on the broody teen called Captain Hook, following him around like a puppy and hoping he’d show me the slightest bit of attention.

He never did, though, not for years. Not until I became his only viable option for getting his crew member back and throwing Croc behind bars. Now he can’t ignore me, and he can’t hide the desire burning in his eyes when I sink to my knees, eager to serve my Captain however he needs.

But secrets are hard to keep in close quarters, and when I discover the darkness lurking in his past, eradicating the evil in Neverland is no longer my only mission. Come hell or high water, I’ll make Hook see that he’s never been the villain of this story…he’s the hero.

*Trigger Warning for readers sensitive to characters with sexual assault in their pasts. Please read the Author’s Note in the beginning of the book for more details.

📝My Review📝: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Hook (Neverland #2)Hook by Gina L. Maxwell

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Hook by Gina Maxwell was a very dark, intense and disturbing read. I will warn you….. for those of you who are triggered by child abuse of a sexual nature you may want to be extra cautious. While there is no current abuse, there are flashbacks. That said, the flashbacks are not all explicitly graphic, however the author is very talented at painting the picture regardless. There will be no mistaking what you’re reading about.

I praise Gina Maxwell for the boundaries she crosses in her writing. These details are not easy to read, so I know that are even that much more difficult to write. that being said, I read a review copy but I understand in the original finished copy has an alternate chapter.

This book brought forth many emotions the most prominent being anger, and heartbreak. So, you are probably wondering why I read such a book? Life isn’t always painted with blue skies and butterflies. Sometimes we need reminders that this world isn’t perfect. Books like Hook bring that reality into perspective. And when we are given a beautifully written, believable happy ending our feeling of joy and elation will be that much more appreciated. I praise this author for writing realistic and believable text.

Hook is one of my favorite MM romances. Hook was a character whose whole purpose in life was to protect those around him. No matter how high and despicable the cost. Hook is a criminal by trade but not by choice. He is careful not to let people too close knowing the end will result in more despair for him and those he loves.

John Darling had a connection with Hook since they were children. But it wasn’t until more than a decade later these two amazing men would be able to explore a relationship, albeit extremely carefully. I don’t want to give any of the story away. This is a book you’ll want to read without any spoilers. I don’t even want to comment on the last chapter; the ending. I will say that while I was pleased how things are going well for John and Hook, I am anxious for the next book in this series to assure me they are still going strong.

Hook is book two in Gina L. Maxwell’s Neverland series. The first book titled, Pan is Peter and Wendy’s story. It is also where we learn the dynamic of the Lost Boys, Hook and his pirates and the evil that is Fred Croc. Hook is a standalone but I think you’ll get more out of the story if you read Pan as well.

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it.

Synopsis:

This holiday season, there’s more than gingerbread in the oven.

I was always a type-A kind of girl— and that’s exactly what got me into trouble with Sterling Ahren.

Having a baby before thirty didn’t work out, so I took some time off to sort out my life. Sterling’s my new landlord… and he doesn’t plan anything.

He’s a billionaire playboy who can’t stand the holidays. A recluse of the worst kind, Sterling makes Scrooge look like a generous soul… except Ebenezer was never this sexy.

He doesn’t want a family— until the night we have a spontaneous one-night stand, and forget to use condoms. I can’t have a baby with a disorganized, free spirit like him. Between my overprotective brothers and his crazy fans, I already know this isn’t going to work out.

Except Sterling isn’t willing to let me go. He wants me home for the holidays… and this is my last chance to make a Christmas miracle happen.

One thing I know for sure: when Sterling and I collide, it’s going to be anything but a silent night.

Funny, touching, and delightful, this smoking hot billionaire holiday rom-com by Claudia Burgoa will make you feel the magic of Christmas.

Once Upon A HolidayOnce Upon A Holiday by Claudia Y. Burgoa

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

While I have previously read a couple of books from this author, I didn’t read the two families whose books led to this interconnection. Once Upon a Holiday is a standalone novella. I did not have any trouble enjoying the book although I had no prior knowledge of their two families. I must add, though, that I am definitely intrigued enough to read those books.

June is an independent, successful business owner. She has a large, loving, but meddlesome family who she adores. Unfortunately, June feels lonely. There is no significant other. June doesn’t care as much about a relationship as she does, having a baby. I don’t want to give too much away regarding that aspect of the story.

That said, June flew into town to spend Thanksgiving with her brothers and the rest of the family. While there, in Colorado, June has a plan. And not even the most handsome man she has ever met will get in the way of that plan.

Too bad for June that Sterling does much more than get in the way. In the beginning of the book, I wasn’t sure how I felt about Sterling. He wasn’t friendly. In fact, he was bold and brash and rude. But there was something about him that I felt paved the way to his current lifestyle and behavior.

In the end, this was truly a beautiful story. Both Sterling and June learned to trust in love and each other. In addition, I believed their story. I felt it and the love they shared. The author did a great job at putting words to pages and giving me the insight I needed to enjoy this book!

This was an enjoyable read. Who doesn’t love a story that involves a Scrooge finding love and laughter?

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it.

The Christmas ContestThe Christmas Contest by Scarlet Wilson

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Christmas Contest was a cute enjoyable story. Both main characters are Christmas fanatics; loving every detail about the festive holiday. When they hear about a contest on the local radio that awards the winner $10,000 towards their favorite charity, each believes they could win. After thousands of entrants are narrowed down, it’s Ben and Lara who go for the win. I’ll admit, at the beginning, Lara was a bit cut-throat. Not that Ben wasn’t in it to win it; but he was definitely a gentleman throughout most of the book. The subject of a Christmas contest was a premise I hadn’t come across before. It was refreshing to read something new and entertaining. That said, this was a sweet story. Once Ben and Lara admitted their attractions, the contest became more than just prize money. I’ll say both Ben and Lara’s causes were equally important. And in the end, I was very pleased with the outcome.

I have previously read a few other books by this author, although this is my first holiday romance from her. I truly enjoyed them all and look forward to reading more by Scarlet Wilson. I definitely recommend this sweet, entertaining Christmas romance. Set in a small Vermont town with a lovable cast of characters and a fun, original storyline, I believe you’ll enjoy The Christmas Contest.

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. 🙂

Christmas at Sleigh Bell FarmChristmas at Sleigh Bell Farm by Kaylie Newell

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was such a beautiful story. From the very beginning I knew this was a special story with characters to match. Thus far this is one of my favorite Christmas reads this year. Believe it or not I have already read at least ten! I have actually read a few other books by this author and enjoyed them all. If you’re looking for feel good romance, I do recommend you check out this author.

Rachel and Lucky…..
When Rachel and Lucky first spy each other from a distance, there is attraction. But neither knows the other nor are either looking for a relationship. Lucky is only in town long enough to give a hand to his beloved grandparent’s farm. Then he’s back to Vet school to fulfill his parent’s wishes. Lucky had a horrible incident happen in his past that keeps him from trusting his own instincts, wants and needs. As a result, he finds himself consistently seeking approval from his father. But does he really need it? Is his father that much of a tyrant? Lucky will soon find out that it’s important to follow your heart if you want true happiness. In life and in love.

Rachel is a server at the Graff Hotel in Marietta. But her passion lies with podcasting. One day she hopes her show will be popular enough that podcasting could be her only occupation. Rachel is currently running a contest to award free publicity for the month of December to the winner. All the applicants need to do is send in “First Kiss” stories. And when she receives Lucky’s story, she is inspired. Lucky entered the contest with the story of his grandparent’s first kiss.

When Rachel and Lucky officially meet, their attraction grows and so does their relationship; albeit slowly. The development of Rachel and Lucky’s relationship grew from friends to more with a believable pace which I appreciated. I felt connected to these two wonderful characters. As the story rolls on, there is a bit of angst and an obstacle here and there to which gives the story some complexity. Rachel and Lucky will have a bit of work to find that happily-ever-after. Don’t worry, I promise you there is a wonderful ending. This was such an enjoyable book and I definitely recommend it for a sit-by-the-fire, comfy chair and hot cocoa Christmas read for anyone looking for a feel-good holiday romance.

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. 🙂

My Review of Iced:  5 Stars!
One of the aspects I enjoy about the Boston Terriers series’ (both football and hockey) is getting more insight on the secondary characters; those who have already had their respective books, and this that are hopefully coming soon. This was how I met Oliver; he was introduced in a previous book. From the moment I met him, I wanted his story. He seemed like a genuine, loyal character and I needed to learn more about this interesting man. I won’t go into any specific details but I will tell you that Oliver is recovering from a breakup. One he didn’t see coming, so of course he was blindsided. I was hurting for him, but I knew he was better off. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have given a second thought to Ava.

Ava has also gone through a breakup. And while I thought Oliver’s ex was a rotten piece of you-know-what, Ava’s ex was a jerk in the first degree. So, while Ava and Oliver navigate a platonic relationship, their true feelings won’t stay hidden for too long. This book is definitely a slow burn. I appreciated the slower relationship development between Ava and Oliver that much more because of the pace of their growing relationship. Their connection was believable.

I definitely recommend this book. And while Iced can be read as a standalone, I promise you’ll enjoy reading it even more if you read the other Boston Terriers books. They are all standalone sports romance with a side of comedy and filled with lovable characters. I can’t wait for the next book n this series!

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it!

Synopsis:

Oliver Ice, one of Boston University’s notorious hockey players, has been on my radar since I slammed into his rock-hard body during my first week of college, three years ago. He helped me to my feet, muttered an apology, and ran off after his girlfriend, dashing my hopes of a happily ever after.

Now, he’s the bartender where I work, and this time, very much single. Night after night I watch the tall, broad, and sexy right winger mixing drinks and being Mr. Personality, while I remind myself how horribly my last relationship ended.

But when Oliver overhears a private conversation, he offers to be the one thing I need more than anything– my pretend boyfriend at a dreaded family reunion.

One weekend was all it was meant to be.

How do I protect my fragile heart when the lines between fantasy and reality blur with our first kiss?

Synopsis:

Brilliant, but overworked California accountant, Rachel Mills, inherits an old bookstore in Marietta, Montana, just as she’s been passed over for a huge promotion. The smart thing to do would be to buckle down and keep on working. But for the first time in her life, she goes with impulsive and books a flight to Montana to inspect the bookstore, and hopefully have her first white Christmas ever.

Texan lawyer and entrepreneur, Atticus Bowen, has found the perfect location for his next restaurant—the two-story, turn-of-the-century brick building on Marietta’s Main Street. All he has to do is convince the new owner to sell Paradise Books to him. After all, used bookstores aren’t practical or viable businesses, and he’s making Rachel Mills a very generous offer. But instead of jumping on his offer, Rachel decides she’s going to open the bookstore doors for December and ‘explore her options.’

The last thing Rachel expected was to fall in love with the old bookstore, or charming Marietta. She never expected sparks to fly with handsome, arrogant Atticus Bowen, either. Smart, practical Rachel realizes she just might be falling in love with the sexy, opinionated Texan lawyer — something that could prove to be neither smart, nor practical….or the best decision of her life.

Oh, Christmas NightOh, Christmas Night by Jane Porter

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I don’t need any excuse to visit Tule Publishing’s stories set in Marietta, Montana. In fact, I’m always anticipating the next. I absolutely love the Montana Born books this publisher offers. In fact, I find a lot of new favorite authors. Oh, Christmas Night was a sweet, endearing story. Not only did this novel give us a true love story, but also a Christmas experience; Marietta style. In addition, Jane Porter is an author I have read many times over and her writing is incredible. Her talent for storytelling is the main aspect why I keep coming back for more.

Rachel Mills, a successful accountant in California has once again been passed over for a promotion she believes should have been hers. She is dealing with the stigma of being a woman in a business in which it’s blatantly obvious if she were a man, she’d have had a promotion years prior. Is Rachel wasting her time with this company? If so, what other options does she have career wise?

When Rachel receives the gift of a bookstore in Marietta, Montana she is flabbergasted. Her godmother wants Rachel to take over the store and make it her own. Of course, Rachel isn’t interested in moving to Montana, yet she is intrigued enough to go and see this store.

Atticus Bowen is a real estate lawyer and restaurant owner. His next endeavor is to open one of his restaurants in Marietta. He wants the bookstore. But as badly as he wants the building, he does not want to undermine Rachel. He makes a generous offer but Rachel has decided to think about it while opening the store and see if it will be profitable.

I very much enjoyed the banter and growing attraction between Rachel and Atticus. Let me say here that while Atticus is the epitome of sexy, successful, wealthy business man, he is first and foremost a gentleman. Atticus was kind, considerate and generous. I truly adored his character. Rachel on the other hand has had a tough past. It’s one of the reasons she needs to be successful. because of her past, Rachel is a no-nonsense, overachiever who wants nothing more to be taken seriously and be successful. Sadly because of this, Rachel is a bit boring and a lot standoffish. So, it took me longer to connect with her. However, her persona began to change soon after her arrival in Marietta.

There were so many sweet moments between Rachel and Atticus. Towards the last chapters, the angst began to build and you could literally feel what was coming. Insecurity took a hold of Rachel and almost cost her the love of a great man. I enjoyed this book very much. I also loved getting to read about some of my favorite Marietta citizens.

If you are looking for some amazing Christmas romances, check out Tule Publishing’s website and see the amazing books that are currently available or coming soon!

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. 🙂
