📝My Review📝: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Devilry (King University #2)Devilry by Marley Valentine

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I immensely loved this story. Everything about it touched my heart. Devilry was very well written and you can tell the author put her heart and soul into every word. While there are plenty of scorching moments, I found the relationship developing between Elijah and Cole most prominent in the story. do read quite a bit of MM romance. That said having different authors perspectives on this genre I know what I like, I know what I enjoy reading. And this book had all the feels I look for in that perfect read. In addition I want to say that this story was very believable. Some of the emotional aspects broke my heart, but there were so many moments that made me smile and swoon. Cole was the older in the relationship however Elijah was very mature. There were times where if I didn’t know better I would say Elijah was the older in the relationship.

Another great enjoyment of this book for me was all the secondary characters. They really all were an integral part of the book. In fact, the author has me curious if there will be any spin-off novels coming.

This is not the first book I have read by this author. I’ve enjoyed most every book I read by her. She is a talented storyteller. I also want to say that whether or not you are a fan of this genre, You’ll enjoy it regardless. It’s deep, angsty, emotional and the happily-ever-after was perfect. Don’t let me forget to mention the epilogue was incredible too. This was the second book in the King’s University series. I can’t wait to read the third! I recommend this as a must read especially if you love a book that will pull at your heartstrings.

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it 🙂

Alister Bennet

Loyal, reliable… predictable even, I’ve always done what’s expected of me. Stay out of trouble, get my teaching degree and build a respectable career as a college professor. The job comes with a long list of rules and at the top of that list is no fraternizing with students. Following the rules seemed easy enough, until a dark, tortured boy sat outside my office waiting for me. His voice told me it was his grade he was worried about, but the deep onyx pools of his eyes told me more as they shook the solid ground I’d always stood on.

Am I willing to risk my career, my carefully built reputation, to help one so filled with pain I can taste it?

Benjamin Wallace

I thought going to college on a scholarship would be my ticket out of hell, but nothing good ever comes without a price. As graduation nears I find myself drawn to the mysterious professor like a moth to a flame. Just one meeting with the man that has been starring in my dreams has my soul screaming for him to hold me, comfort me. 📝My Review📝:

Learning Curve: MM Student Teacher RomanceLearning Curve: MM Student Teacher Romance by Andi Jaxon

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Absolutely amazing! One of the best books of my reading year thus far. This book has all the feels and some of those emotions were killing me. This was my first book by this author and I am excited to read more.

Being a blogger, I see many author’s names. I read many blurbs, and add many books to my TBR. This was partially what happened with this book. Except, the blurb hit me hard! There was something about it that said, “Hey, you can’t just add this book to be lost among the hundreds on your TBR. You are going to read it now!” And that is exactly what I did. Unfortunately it was late at night when I started and couldn’t keep my eyes open. But you can bet as soon as my morning coffee was in hand, I grabbed my Kindle and read on. And Oh. My God! Could this book be any more intense, emotional and tragic. I knew after the first few pages I was going on the best of literary rides. That said, what an impression to have from a new to me author. Oh, I have to read more of her books.

Alister and Sam…..
Both of these men are complex, well developed characters. I had no questions regarding their lives by the end of the book. Learning Curve was tied up nicely in a perfect happily-ever-after. One that was beyond deserved. Especially for Ben. Secondary characters added more depth and a bit of humor (from Ali’s brother Alex) which was added to lighten the mood here and there. Trust me, I needed that. Alister is a math professor and is in his late thirties. He is successful, gorgeous, loyal, loves his family and will do anything to protect those he loves. Ali isn’t looking for love because right now in his life, he feels content. So when 23 year Ben Wallace shows up at his office on the first day of classes, he is absolutely blindsided. For some reason, all of Ali’s protective instants are on full alert. There is something intensely sad and tragic behind Ben’s eyes. I don’t want to spoil any of the development of these two amazing characters so I won’t say much more.

I will tell you to be ready for an an incredible read. Have a box a tissues ready. And be prepared, because your own protective instincts will come out. If there was a way to jump through the pages and keep Ben forever safe, I would have happily done it.

This book is a must read. To all of my friends that know me, I would not recommend a book if I didn’t believe it to be amazing. So happy to have found another great author and can’t wait to read more from her!

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. 🙂

Andrew Buchanan had been keeping a secret, one he kept from his family until he was on his deathbed. Now the responsibility of telling his other family that he’d gone was left to Nick. So Nick traveled to America, unsure of what to expect but hopeful for the future. Enter his half-brother Chase, who was so angry and filled with hatred he wanted nothing to do with Nick and left him in no doubt of his feelings on the matter.

The only ray of sunshine was Chase’s closet friend, Brad. Nick was instantly drawn to him, but given how things were with Chase he was firmly on the ‘don’t touch’ list. Brad was hooked the moment he saw Nick but had to put those feelings aside to try and help him win over his new family.
Spending time with Nick, only made Brad want him more, a feeling he was sure Nick returned. However, he couldn’t give in to the temptation because he knew it would ruin his friendship with Chase.
Their attraction, however, couldn’t be denied and one day the inevitable happened, Nick and Brad crossed a line they both swore they wouldn’t. Could their relationship survive, or would distance and loyalties pull them apart?

The wind buffeted the car, rocking it gently and causing the trees lining the driveway to sway. Nick sat, feeling the car rock, and sighed. He leaned his elbow on the window and rested his chin in his hand, seeing but not. His mind was elsewhere.

He sat, staring at the house. A beautiful, sprawling, ranch-style home, painted a pale yellow with white trim. He’d parked further down the driveway than necessary so he could check the place out. A winding path led from the driveway to the front door, with flowerbeds along it. Trees lined the land around the house and the attached two-car garage. It looked warm and inviting, yet Nick struggled to leave the safety of the car.

It had taken him thirty minutes to get here from his hotel. A drive fraught with nerves, but he’d made it. He’d liked the area too. Sater’s Creek was a nice place to live, and under different circumstances, he would love to come again, but that all depended on what happened next.

He’d been sitting there for ten minutes, trying to find the courage to open the car door and get out. Ten minutes trying to pluck up the courage to approach the house and knock on the door. To introduce himself to the occupants within. He couldn’t find the words, they eluded him, but he needed to if he were to do what he’d said he would.

He’d made a promise, given his word, but now that he was here, he wasn’t sure if he could follow through. Broken promises, words whispered, then scattered in the breeze. They had led him here to this place. A place he hadn’t known existed mere weeks ago. A place none of them had known about.

It should be him and his brother facing this together, but his sister-in-law was due to give birth to their first child any day now, and Danny couldn’t leave, not that Nick would have wanted him to. Danny needed to be with his wife.

And so he sat, staring at a house that held a future he knew nothing about. A future with people he didn’t know. People he should have known for almost all his life but was now about to meet for the first time. Nick tried to see it from their point of view but sadly failed.

Everything was different now, his plans altered. He’d suffered recently. The last six months had been difficult to overcome, difficult to comprehend what he’d experienced and how he had dealt with it. The devastating loss and the utter loneliness that followed. Even though his brother had been with him, the pain shared, he was still alone.

And now he was here, following the words whispered in the quietness of that room.

He dropped his head into his hands, closing his eyes. He was tired, bone-tired. His shoulders slumped with the weight they carried. The suffering, the pain, the loss. He wasn’t sure if he could ever walk upright again.

Breathing deeply, Nick lifted his head and blinked his eyes, staring out of the car window. Looking at the house, he knew he couldn’t stay in the car. He’d given his word, and he intended to keep it.

He opened the door and stood, slamming it shut behind him. He took a breath in, holding it, and closed his eyes. The wind moved over and through him. Cleansing him, or so it felt, but Nick didn’t know if he would ever truly feel clean again. That smell, one he’d smelled for months followed him everywhere, even here, thousands of miles away.

Releasing his breath, Nick walked towards the front door, wiping his suddenly clammy hands on his jeans. His heart hammered in his chest, so fast and loud, he was sure everyone around him would hear it. The safety of the car behind called him, and Nick fought the urge to stop, turn around, and walk away, but deep down, he knew he couldn’t, and so he continued, putting one foot in front of the other.

When he reached the door, he paused, staring at the yellow door. He had to do this. He’d made a promise, and he wouldn’t break it. Swallowing, he lifted his hand, staring at his clenched fist, and lowered it to his side. The door looked clean, pure. Nick didn’t know if he should soil it.

He leaned forward, resting his head on it, closing his eyes. His heart threatened to burst free from his chest, and his hands went clammy once again. He swallowed hard, opened his eyes and knocked on the door before he could stop himself. He’d come too far to turn away.

Pushing away from the door, Nick waited for someone to answer, breathing in through his nose and out his mouth, trying to calm his racing heart, his turbulent stomach. He didn’t have to wait long.

The door opened, and a man stood there, frowning. Older than Nick but not by much.

“Hello. Can I help you?”

Nick swallowed and cleared his throat. “Chase? Chase Buchanan? Son of Andrew Buchanan?”

The frown deepened as the man looked Nick over. “Who’s asking?”

Nick swallowed again and took a deep breath before answering, “My name’s Nick, and I’m your brother.”

For Wall McCormack, actions speak louder than words. He’s giving and protective, loyal to his friends, and devoted to his job. While confident and powerful enough to conquer any challenge, his greatest strength lies in his calm nature. Until an unexpected assignment sends his world into a loud and colorful chaos he never could have anticipated.

Rejection. It’s something Dylan Vaughn has known his entire life. But he’s a tough nut to crack and refuses to break. Armed with a sharp tongue and brutal honesty, he pushes through life and at anyone who attempts to take him on. Except for the quiet guardian who piques his interest and dares him to want…more.

When Dylan’s past comes back with a vengeance and jeopardizes their growing connection, Wall will stop at nothing to protect the younger man and remain by his side. But convincing Dylan that someone accepts the real man behind the cocky facade might prove to be Wall’s greatest challenge yet.
With his freedom on the line, Dylan must trust the strength of their bond and confront the forces threatening their future. Only then will he realize the dream of acceptance is real and finally have a place to call home.

“You have other skills.”
“I doubt being bratty and having a smart mouth are next on the list of desired skills.”
“Why do you consider those two of your most glowing qualities?”
Dylan looked up. “Huh?”
“You mention them after your computer skills. So they are the traits you associate with yourself the most. Why is that?”
“Um…” Is that a trick question? “Because I have a smart mouth and most people say I’m bratty.” He should add snark and sarcasm as additional languages. Maybe that would beef up his resume.
“I’m not arguing that point,” Matt said with a ghost of a smile. “But it’s obvious you do it with a bit of…spite. So I’m wondering if it’s truly part of your nature or if you do it only because people expect you to.”
Dylan shrugged, not really liking the serious shift in the conversation. He didn’t know how to do this emotional chitchat crap, and Matt was in a sensitive state of mind after everything that had happened. He returned his attention to the book and flicked the edge of the pages against his fingertip, trying to busy himself.
“You’re not alone, Dylan.”
Dylan slammed his book shut. “Try telling that to all the nonexistent people standing around me.” He bit back his usual defensiveness. He saw something flash in Matt’s expression, but couldn’t peg exactly what it was. But he guessed Matt wanted to be his savior. Maybe it was his nature, and Dylan was probably wrong considering his track record with people, but he couldn’t help the feeling tugging at the back of his mind that this determination stemmed from what had happened to the other guys. “You didn’t fail, Matt.”
“What?”
“With the guys. The knife in the room. That wasn’t your failure. It was their choice.”
Matt frowned and ducked his head. He set his glass of lemonade on the ground beside the bench and clasped his hands together, taking a deep breath. “I could have guided them better.” Matt winced, probably realizing he had voiced that thought. “Robbie was at his father’s house for the weekend. Neil told the police that Robbie had mentioned his father would hit him when drunk. The knife was for protection. I should have—”
“Stop it,” Dylan said, with a little more force than he had intended. “How were you supposed to know something Neil told the police after the fact? Robbie didn’t share it with you, he shared it with Neil, and unless you’re a psychic, how the hell were you supposed to know that was happening?” Dylan shook his head. His people-meter might suck, but his logic-detector was fully functional. “You’re just like Sam. Not everyone wants to be saved. That’s a tough pill to swallow, but it’s part of life.”
Matt cocked his head. “Is that your story?”
“I don’t need saving.”
“No, you don’t. You’re obviously resilient as hell.” Matt turned on the bench seat to face him. “But don’t plan your future because of things in your past. Learn from them and consider them life lessons.”
“You should listen to your own wisdom. Don’t beat yourself up because the guys screwed up. That’s on them, not you. Consider it…a life lesson,” Dylan finished with a flourish of his hand and a raised eyebrow. “You offer more help than most, and if people don’t want to take it, then it’s on them.”

Jaime Reese is the alter ego of an artist who loves the creative process of writing, just not about herself. Fiction is far more interesting. She has a weakness for broken, misunderstood heroes and feels everyone deserves a chance at love and life. An avid fan of a happy ending, she believes those endings acquired with a little difficulty are more cherished.
