JACKSON by Emily March

Synopsis:

From New York Times bestselling author Emily March comes Jackson, the newest novel in the critically acclaimed Eternity Springs series.

Sometimes it takes a new beginning
Caroline Carruthers thinks she buried her dreams along with the love of her life…until a stranger named Celeste dares her to chase a dream all on her own. Moving to Redemption, Texas, is chapter one in Caroline’s new life story. Opening a bookstore is the next. Finding love is the last thing on her mind as she settles into this new place called home. But when she meets a handsome, soulful man who’s also starting over, all bets are off.

to reach a happily-ever-after
Jackson McBride came to Redemption looking only to find himself, not someone to love. Ever since his marriage ended, he’s been bitter. Sure, he used to believe in love—he even has the old song lyrics to prove it—but the Jackson of today is all business. That is, until a beautiful young widow who’s moved to town inspires a change of heart. Could it be that the myth of Redemption’s healing magic is true…and Jackson and Caroline can find a second chance at a happy ending after all?

Chapter One Excerpt

Nashville, Tennessee

Bang. The judge’s gavel fell and officially crushed Jackson McBride’s heart. He closed his eyes. Bleak despair washed over him. Up until this very moment, he hadn’t believed she’d take it this far.

He’d thought she’d come to her senses. He’d thought she would recognize that this proposal was not only nonsense, but truly insane. He’d believed that somewhere deep inside of her, she still had a spark of humanity. That she wouldn’t do this to him. To them. He’d been wrong.

Damn her. Damn her and the yes-men she surrounded herself with. Damn them all to hell and back.

The enormity of what had just happened washed over him. Oh, God, how will

I survive this?

On the heels of his anguish came the rage. It erupted hot as lava, and it fired his blood and blurred his vision with a red haze of fury. He’d never hit a woman in his life. Never come close, despite plenty of provocation from her direction. In that moment had she been within reach, he might have lived up her accusations.

It scared the crap out of him. That’s what she’s brought me to.

Abruptly, he shoved back his chair so hard that it teetered, almost falling over. He strode toward the courtroom exit. “Jackson? Jackson, wait!” his attorney called, hurrying after him.

Jackson waved her off and didn’t stop. There was nothing left to be said. Nothing left to be done. No place left to go.

No little girl waiting at home to hug and cuddle and kiss good night.

The tap on the toes of Jackson’s boots clacked against the tile floor of the courthouse as his long-legged strides ate up the hallway. He shunned the elevator for the stairs and descended three flights at a rapid pace, then headed for the building’s exit. In a foolish bit of positive thinking, he’d driven his SUV to the courthouse this morning. Now the sight of the safety booster seat in the back seat made him want to kick a rock into next week.

He didn’t want to go home to a quiet, empty house. He shouldn’t go to a bar. Alcohol on top of his current mood could be a dangerous combination. Somebody probably would get hurt.

He got into the car and started the engine. For a long moment he sat unmoving, staring blindly through the windshield, his hands squeezing the steering wheel so hard that it should have cracked. When his phone rang, he ignored it.

A couple of minutes later, it rang a second time. Again, he ignored it. When it happened a third time, he finally glanced at the display to see who was calling. His cousin. Okay, maybe he would answer it.

“Hello, Boone.”

“How did the hearing go?”

Jackson couldn’t speak past the lump in his throat, so he said nothing.

Following a moment’s silence, Boone got the message. He muttered a curse, and then said, “I’m sorry, man. So damn sorry.”

“Well, it is what it is.”

“You can take another run at it.”

“Yeah.” In three years. Three years. Might as well be three decades. He cleared his throat and changed the subject. “So, how are things in Eternity Springs?”

“Good. They’re good. My friend Celeste Blessing visited my office a few minutes ago and spoke of her granite-headed cousin. Naturally, I thought of you.”

“Naturally,” Jackson dryly replied. But he felt a little less alone.

“Do you have plans this weekend? I could use your help with something.”

Pretty convenient timing. Knowing Boone, he had a spy in the courtroom. But Jackson wasn’t in the position to ignore the bone he’d been thrown. “I’m free. Whatcha got?”

“I’d like you to meet me at home.”

Jackson straightened in surprise. “You’re going back to the ranch?”

“No. Not there. I’m never going back there. However, I am talking about Texas. The Hill Country in particular. A little town west of Austin called Redemption.”

“Redemption, Texas?” Jackson repeated. For some weird reason, his heart gave a little skip. “Why there?”

“It’s a long story. Too long for a phone call. I’ll give you the entire skinny when I see you. When can you get there?”

After today’s debacle, Jackson had absolutely no reason to remain in Nashville. “When do you want me there?”

“I’ll be in later today. I’m in Austin now. I’ve been helping a friend with a project. I have a flight back to Colorado Sunday evening. The earlier you can get here the better, but I’ll make anything work.”

Jackson figured the distance and the drive time. “I’ll meet you tomorrow afternoon. Where?”

“Great. I’ll text you the info when we hang up. Bring camping gear.”

When a sound behind him had Jackson glancing up into the rearview mirror and the booster seat caught his notice, he made an instant decision. “Can’t. I’ll be on my bike.”

“You’re gonna ride your motorcycle all the way from Nashville?”

“Yes, I think I am.”

“Okay. I’ll bring stuff for both of us.” Boone hesitated a moment and added, “Hang in there,

Jackson. It’ll get better.”

No, I don’t think it will. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”

Jackson ended the call and finally put his SUV in gear and backed out of the parking place. With the distraction of the call behind him, fury returned, and by the time he reached home, he felt like a volcano about to explode.

He threw a handful of things into his tail bag, filled his wallet with cash from his stash, and ten minutes after his arrival, he fired up his bike and took his broken heart and headed out of Nashville. He left behind his home, his work, and his one reason for living, his six-year-old daughter, Haley.

Emily March Blogger Q&A JACKSON

  1. You wrote a book! That’s pretty awesome. Why don’t you tell us a bit about what inspired Jackson and the rest of the books in the Eternity Springs world?

The saying “Write what you know” says it all in my case. I’m a small-town girl and my family and friendships are center to my world. I write about love and family and friendships. I have roots in both the Colorado Rockies and the Texas Hill Country, so it was natural for me to set Eternity Springs and Redemption there. The idea for JACKSON grew out of my interest in the music currently being written and performed in Texas. I’ve always thought singer/songwriters are romantic figures so I was excited to create a hero with this background. Unfortunately, I’m not a musician and I’m definitely not a singer, but I am creative so it was fun for me to explore that aspect of a character.

  1. Introduce us to your main character!

Okay. Well, Americana singer/songwriter Jackson McBride is a bit damaged when the book begins. His famous, talented and wealthy ex has won a custody battle that severely limits his access to his six-year-old daughter, so Jackson goes home to the Texas Hill Country to nurse his broken heart. He finds solace in Enchanted Canyon hiking the trails with the dog he rescues and working to bring a historic dance hall back to life. The last thing he expects is to find love again with a woman whose heart is as battered as his own.

  1. Walk us through a day in the life of Emily March.

Ready to be bored? Now that my daughter’s and niece’s weddings are behind me—they consumed me for months—I’m boring and happy about it. I split my time between Fort Worth where we have a condo downtown in a 1930’s passenger train station and our lake house in the Texas Hill Country. I recently gave up my office in town because I’m spending more and more time at the lake. My husband also offices out of our condo, so on days when we are both working in town, I’ve started riding the new TexRail train that runs from our building to DFW airport. It’s quiet and comfortable and I don’t have Internet to distract me. And at $5 a day, it’s much cheaper than office rent. 🙂 When I’m at the lake I’m either working or doing yard work. My new favorite toy is my power washer.

  1. Lots of aspiring authors out there. Any advice for them?

I’ve always thought that one of the most important things you can do for your writing is to read. And read. And read some more. Read across genres. You absorb so much about pacing and plotting and character development when you read. Plus, you get to READ! 🙂

  1. How is the Jackson trilogy different than your other series?

I don’t think it’s necessarily different from the rest of the Eternity Springs series. I write about love and family and friendship—that doesn’t change. Readers will still see old friends from Eternity Springs and a few scenes in JACKSON are set in Colorado. What’s new is we get to spend some time in the Texas Hill Country and meet a few new characters—Celeste’s cousin, Angelica, for example.

  1. I know asking someone’s all-time favorite book is a loaded question so what’s your current favorite read?

I’m a big fan of Patricia Brigg’s Mercy Thompson series and I’m reading her latest right now, STORM CURSED.

  1. Alright, the ultimate question: why should we read your book?

My goals as a writer are to touch a reader’s heart, to entertain her and make her laugh, to maybe cry a little and sigh with satisfaction upon reaching the end. With JACKSON, I believe I’ve achieved those goals.

  1. Describe yourself in 3 words.

Family. Family. Family. 🙂

  1. What is your most embarrassing memory?

Walking out of the junior high school cafeteria in seventh grade, not realizing that my very short dress—it was the 70’s—had gotten hung up in my underwear and I inadvertently flashed my rear end to the entire cafeteria—including the tables where the football players sat. Thinking about it even today gives me the hives.

  1. Favorite quote or scene you wrote in JACKSON?

I love the ending.  Jackson is a songwriter who has lost his music and when he finds it again…the song he sings to Caroline…just makes me melt.

  1. What is one piece of advice you would tell everyone?

Call your mother.

  1. What inspired you to become a writer?

I’ve always loved to read, so that is part of it, but my father was my primary inspiration. He was a fabulous storyteller. I grew up sitting at his feet and listening to him tell stories about his youth and his experiences in Europe during World War II. Listening to him tell his stories was my favorite thing to do. I didn’t inherit his talent for verbal storytelling, but I think I learned from him how to tell a good story on the page.

  1. Do you have any interesting writing quirks or habits?

Like I mentioned before, I’m pretty boring. My perks and habits are always evolving. The train writing thing is new for me. I usually write on a laptop and edit on a desktop. I listen to movie soundtracks when I write and always finish a book with The Last of the Mohicans.

  1. What has been one of the most surprising things you’ve learned as a published author

I’m always a little surprised and honored that readers are excited to meet me. Like I said…I’m a boring person.

  1. What is your favorite state to visit? Colorado, of course, because I must keep returning to Eternity Springs. 🙂

  1. What are hobbies or interests do you have?

We are lake people, so I love waterskiing and boating and fishing. As I write this we’ve just finished Memorial Day weekend at the lake, so I sort of feel like chief cook and sheet-and-towel washer, too. I love, love, love hosting big holiday gatherings of family and friends at the lake house, but I will admit I do tire of the mountain of laundry in the aftermath.

  1. Can you tell us about what’s coming up next after this for you writing wise?

I’m writing Tucker’s story. Fun fact for this—as part of my research I attended a survivalist training school for a weekend. I searched long and hard to find one where I could return to town to spend the night in a comfy hotel rather than sleep on the ground—I’m only willing to go so far for my art. I did learn to start a friction fire, though, something I’me VERY proud of. 🙂

5-star review
“There is nothing like a book that sucks you in and doesn’t let up until the last page. Whitley Cox knows how to spin a tale with fabulous characters that you can’t forget! I loved Tori and Mark’s story, I loved how their story played out. Their attraction is so passionate and intense, you can feel the heat between them.” ~ Leslee Nevill (Amazon Reviewer)

5-star review
“This author did a great job touching on the subject of autism and how it affects the family. I loved how this series is going to be about each of Mark’s buddies and how they navigate their lives as single dads. I really am looking forward to the next book in this series.” ~Kelly Mentzer (Amazon Reviewer)

5-star review
“This story could not have been better! I love when an author writes a wonderful storyline for a person with special needs and does it very well. I have a child with special needs so this story grabbed hold of my heart, and so did little Gabe. A fabulous start to what promises to be an amazing series. The connection that Mark and Tori have is blazing hot but of course the whole employee/employer thing creates a conflict. Whitley Cox gave us a well written story, drama, humor, steamy scenes, tons of chemistry and a whole bunch of amazing characters. I can’t wait for book 2.” ~Cayson09 (Amazon Reviewer)

5-star review
“This was my first time reading a book like this and boy was my heart not ready! Mark is a single dad of a wonderful special needs son named Gabe. Finding someone who is good with Gade and meets all of their needs is a hard job to fill. After meeting Tori one day out of the blue, he knew that she was a perfect fit for his son Gabe. Little did he know that she was also the perfect fit for him! This book takes you on a heartwarming journey of understanding, love, and even loss. I couldn’t put it down. I cannot wait to hear the rest of the single dad’a stories! You get a little taste of each of them as an intro with Mark and Tori’s book and I want more!”~ Danielle (Amazon Reviewer)

“What are your plans this weekend?” she asked, feeling like she needed to keep the conversation flowing. When they grew quiet, her imagination took the reins and drove her train of thought straight into the gutter in Sexyville, USA. And that gutter was filthy!

He lifted one shoulder, passing her the dish towel so she could dry her hands after she removed the drain plug. “Poker night Saturday, then I think I might take Gabe to The Museum of Flight on Sunday. He loves it there.”

Right, his “dads’ club” and their weekly poker night.

What were they all like? Did they sit around bashing their ex-wives? Bashing women? Or was it more of a support group for the struggles of independent child rearing? Or were they typical men and didn’t talk about their feelings at all and just drank beer, ate junk food, grunted and gambled?

Probably the latter.

“Sounds like a good time. Do you really gamble away your money, or is it all for fun?”

He hung up the dish towel, his gaze sliding toward her. “Real money.”

She pursed her lips. “Wow. Maybe when I have two pennies to rub together again, someday I can take a trip to Vegas and sit at a poker table. Take in the action. The excitement. Are you any good?”

His smile was coy. “I win more than I lose.”

“That’s good.”

She needed to get going. She needed to get home, get away from the delicious-smelling single dad standing in front of her wearing a black T-shirt far too tight to leave anything to the imagination, and gray sweatpants she wanted to rip off him with her teeth.

“Well, I … uh … I guess I should get going. Those fish aren’t going to feed themselves.” She slid her hand along the cool quartz countertop, letting it ground her and bring down her body temperature. She was in a full-on inferno. The way Mark was looking at her … it was giving her false hope. It was giving her the wrong idea.

The wrong idea to be bad. To do bad, bad things.

Bad, bad fun things.

But, no she couldn’t go there.

Nope.

Not ever.

Not with her boss.

Not with the single dad.

His gaze never left hers as his head bobbed in a nearly indiscernible nod. “I guess so.”

Was that disappointment on his face? Were his eyes asking her to stay? Were they asking her to strip naked and bend over the counter?

Oh God … Uncle John eating chicken wings without a shirt on, his enormous, hairy, barrel chest covered in barbecue sauce, sitting in a kiddie pool with water wings and a floaty ring.

Phew. Crisis averted.

Keeping her hand on the counter for balance, because her faculties seemed to have suddenly escaped her, she went to move past him, only her fingers knocked something off the counter onto the tile floor.

“Shit,” Tori murmured. She glanced down, only to find Mark’s phone, of all possible things, on the floor. “Oh no!”

“It’s okay.” He bent down to get it.

She bent down too.

Just as her hand wrapped around the phone, his hand wrapped around her wrist. Electricity ripped through her the moment his fingers grazed her skin. A pulse so intense, so hot, so charged she felt like she’d stuck a fork into an electrical socket. She leapt back, dropping the phone and pulling her hand free from his grasp.

“Sorry.” He stood up.

Tori swallowed the lump in her throat, pushing down the emotions, the arousal, the pure animalistic lust she felt for the man standing in front of her. “I—I’m sorry. I hope I didn’t crack the screen.”

He turned the phone over in his big, sexy palm, a roguish grin pulling at the corners of his delicious-looking lips. “Not a scratch.”

She licked her lips. “That’s good.”

His eyes locked on hers. “Yeah.”

Tori’s mouth parted, little puffs of air coming out as if she’d just run a mile. Her heart beat rapidly in her chest, and her palms grew clammy.

Mark’s gaze burned into her. “Tori … ”

“Yes?”

“Ah, fuck!”

And then he was on her.

A Canadian West Coast baby born and raised, Whitley is married to her high school sweetheart, and together they have two beautiful daughters and a fluffy dog. She spends her days making food that gets thrown on the floor, vacuuming Cheerios out from under the couch and making sure that the dog food doesn’t end up in the air conditioner. But when nap time comes, and it’s not quite wine o’clock, Whitley sits down, avoids the pile of laundry on the couch, and writes.

A lover of all things decadent; wine, cheese, chocolate and spicy erotic romance, Whitley brings the humorous side of sex, the ridiculous side of relationships and the suspense of everyday life into her stories. With single dads, firefighters, Navy SEALs, mommy wars, body issues, threesomes, bondage and role-playing, these books have everything we need to satisfy the curious kink in all of us.

📝My Review📝: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

On the Surface (Imperfect Love, #3)On the Surface by Nikki Ash

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow. Nikki Ash just keeps on impressing me! I loved this book so much! You can tell that this author puts her heart into every story.

Ok, so I’m not going to lie…..when we met Celeste in Nick’s book, The Pick Up, book one in the series, I did not like her. Not at all! Then we are given more of her in Killian and Giselle’s book. There I can admit I still wasn’t on board with the “Celeste” train. She just was not a likable character. And do you know what? I’m glad the author kept her backstory from us until her own book. Celeste is a very complex character. There are many sides to her. But as the title implies, Celeste is just one persona on the surface. There is so much more to this woman. My admiration and respect for her grew expotentionally in my mind and in my heart. No, Celeste was not perfect. She did frustrate me now and again. But this time I understood where she was coming from. Fear is an emotion that has the potential to destroy us. I’m just glad that by the end of the book, Celeste decided to overcome most of her fears to have her happily-ever-after.

Now, Jase, swoon-worthy all the way. Even Jase is more that what you see on the surface. I loved his character from the moment we met him in the past. He was so perfect. If I had to dig deep to find any flaws he might have, I’d be unsuccessful. He was just everything I love in a book boyfriend.

Going into the book, you know these two have a past. And while it was a short one, there were very strong feelings involved. Unfortunately, something happens that separates them for ten years. So much time has passed but the hurt never left either. I’m not going to say they made up quickly because that would make this story a disappointment. The regrowth of their relationship was a slow one. Yes, they had hot chemistry and a few hot moments, but when it came to committing, there were issues that had to be dealt with.

But in the end, I couldn’t have asked for a better “wrap-up.” I’m not ready to say goodbye to these characters. I absolutely can’t wait for Quinn’s book. She is Jase’s sister. I already know her story is going to be great.

This book is part of a series but can be read as a standalone. But trust me, you’ll want to read the two books prior for a better reading experience.

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you taking the time to read it. 🙂

this: You pack your bags. Move to Paris. Fall in love.
A dream,
right?
Wrong.
Especially
when you find out your Mr. Right is actually married. With kids. Don’t even
mention the white picket fence.
Heartbroken
in the City of Love, the last person Elizabeth Hastings expects to lend her a
shoulder to cry on is her brother’s best friend…
Spencer Tate is opening up his first gym in London when a frantic call from his
best friend sends him to Paris to check on Sebastian’s baby sister.

If he’s
lucky he can stop in for a minute and be back in London the next day. Easy
peasy.
Except the
dorky bookworm he remembers is now all grown up, with dangerous curves, lips
just made for kissing and eyes he could get lost in…
Spencer.
Is. Screwed.

Chapter One
Lizzie
Elizabeth Hastings was wearing a trench coat,
black pumps, and nothing else.
She’d never done this before. She wasn’t
usually the sort of girl to go out of her way to impress a guy—she’d never had
anyone worth the effort before. But boy, was Amaury worth the effort. At least
that’s what she told herself every single, terrifying moment there was a bump
or quick turn on the metro that threatened to send her toppling forward, giving
her fellow passengers a more intimate glimpse than any stranger on public transport
should ever see.
When you don’t have a car, Versailles is
actually quite difficult to get to from Paris. For Lizzie, at least. She’d
never had to worry too much about public transport where she grew up, and to be
honest, thanks to her generous trust fund, shouldn’t really have to bother with
it here. But when she’d moved to Paris, she had wanted the starving-artist
experience. There was no way she could write a masterpiece of the likes of
Hemingway or Fitzgerald if she was living it up like some sort of luxury travel
blogger. She needed to live a Paris city life in all its glory, inconveniences
included.
That is how she found herself on a one-hour,
two-train journey from central Paris to a quiet street on the outskirts of
Versailles, praying that an errant wind didn’t put her ass on display to Metro
Line 4.
She took a deep, nervous breath as she exited
the train, holding a little box with his favorite pastries from that shop he
loved in Montparnasse. She turned her mind to Amaury to ease her nerves during
the walk from the station. It was six months since their first date, six months
since he’d swept her off her feet and made her move to Paris unforgettable.
With olive skin that made him look permanently
sun-kissed and those striking gray eyes, he was one of the most gorgeous men
she had ever seen, with a French accent thrown in for good measure.
She sighed and couldn’t help but smile to
herself when she eventually reached his street. Whenever she thought of him,
she felt a rush of pure warmth flood her system. He was exactly what she’d
fantasized about when she dreamed of finding love in Paris… Older, commanding,
mysterious. And so sexy. So unapologetically French.
She glanced up and fidgeted with the belt on
her jacket when she reached the picket fence outside his house. They didn’t
usually meet up here. Amaury was a successful lawyer and based in Paris, so
he’d bought a little apartment there for when he didn’t feel like commuting,
which was most of the time. He preferred the city; he thought it was so
romantic. Lizzie agreed. That’s why they always spent the night there when they
saw each other. The only time she’d been to his house in Versailles was once,
after a spontaneous message, instructing her to pack a bag and set aside a
weekend… But even then he’d only popped into the house to grab a few things for
himself and then they drove off toward the wineries in the south.
He didn’t know she was coming here today, of
course. That was the point of a surprise. But she knew he was here this
morning; he always was on Sundays. Anyway, she didn’t think he’d mind; she was
doing something special for him and it was their anniversary, for crying out
loud.
Well, their six-month anniversary. And the
anniversary of their first date, not the moment they’d decided to commit to one
another. Not that there had actually been
a moment like that; they’d never had “the talk”—they didn’t need to. It was
obvious from the moment he told her he loved her, and that he’d never met a
woman as captivating, as magnifique,
as her. Lizzie wasn’t exactly lacking in self-confidence; she didn’t need the
poor man to spell out the words be my
girlfriend
for her to validate their relationship. She could be mature
about it all.
“Enough stalling,” she berated herself in a half-whisper,
strutting forward through the gate. “Just do it.”
She shook her head, fluffed out her thick, dark
hair a bit, then walked up to the door and pressed the bell. Lizzie fidgeted
and rocked on her heels; she must have switched positions five times in an
attempt to somehow land on one that was casual yet sexy. She would be content
to find a position that halfway achieved that.
“Delivery for Ama—” she began but abruptly
stopped as the door swung fully open.
Voulez-vous
parler avec Papa?”
a small, pajama-clad boy piped up, standing at the
threshold. He looked about six years old, with a tuft of dark brown hair and
piercing gray eyes that looked just Amaury’s.
“Hello? Can I help you?” a blonde with features
so flawless, her face looked like it had been sculpted by freaking angels,
asked in heavily accented English as she joined the boy.
“I…Um…” Lizzie could barely speak, could barely
see. “I think I have the wrong—”
Qui-est-ce?
She knew the voice that asked, “Who is it?” in French. It was Amaury’s. But
that couldn’t be right. He lived alone. This couldn’t be his house. She must
have confused it with a neighbor. Lizzie took a step back and glanced toward
the house next door. It didn’t look like Amaury’s. Maybe his neighbors were
just visiting his place?
“She looks like a lost tourist looking for the
palace. I’ll help her out. Why don’t you go put Nicolas to bed?” Amaury’s voice
rapidly fired off in French, cutting through Lizzie’s haze. He deftly stepped
in front of the woman and child then closed the door behind him.
His hand was still on the handle. On his ring
finger was a gold band she’d never seen before.
She blinked a few times, but it didn’t move.
“What are you doing here?” Amaury demanded.
She’d never heard his voice so hard.
“It’s our anniversary,” she said, still not
quite believing this was really happening. She hoped he didn’t hear the tremble
in her voice.
“Anniversary? What?” Amaury stepped forward and
his long, elegant hands grabbed onto her shoulders. “What were you thinking,
showing up here? If my wife found out—”
That snapped her out of it. She gasped as she
pushed him away. “Your wife? Your
wife! You didn’t think that was an important thing to mention to your girlfriend?”
Amaury laughed. It wasn’t a nice sound.
“Girlfriend? You think you’re my girlfriend, cherie?” He laughed harder. “Oh, Americans.”
Her eyes stung, and Amaury’s beautiful face
blurred. She felt sick. Ruined. He had a family? What the fuck? She was a mistress? The other woman? Lizzie gulped
down the acid that rose in her throat. This couldn’t be happening.
“You said you loved me. You said I captivated
you.”
Amaury cut her off. “A man will say a lot of
things to get a woman in bed.” He laughed some more. “Did you think you were
the only one I fucked in that apartment?”
She didn’t respond. She couldn’t get the words
out. They stuck in her throat, choking her.
Amaury turned back to the door. Apparently, he
was finished with her. With his hand still on the brass handle, he glanced back
over his shoulder at her.
“Come here again and I will have a restraining
order filed against you.”
Well, then. That relationship was well and
truly over.
