A match made in heaven…
When strong, independent cowgirl Jessie McBride meets former Green Beret Asher Chapman while doing PT for her broken leg, the two share an instant bond. Jessie rescues and raises mustangs, while Asher established and runs a foundation that matches veterans with shelter animals. The immediate, fiery physical connection between them is even stronger.
A conflict born in hell
Unlike the girlfriend who left him after discovering the full extent of his injuries, Asher knows Jessie can handle his physical wounds. But he doesn’t believe any woman could handle the secret he can’t even face himself. Much as he wants her…and is becoming convinced he loves her, he can’t risk disclosing what haunts him.
Jessie can’t understand why Asher emotionally pulls her close only to push her away again. Can this wounded warrior learn to trust Jessie to love all of him before he drives her away for good?
Heart of the Texas Warrior by Eve Gaddy is book four in the Heart of Texas Series. As with another recent series I read from Tule Publishing, I only read the last two books. But that’s ok because I had no trouble following along with any aspect. Each book, while interconnected by family, has its own premise. That’s not to say, I won’t go back and read the series’s prior books. I definitely will as soon as I can find some time. I loved all the characters, including the McBride siblings that I haven’t read yet.
Eve Gaddy is definitely not a new author for me. I have enjoyed all the books I have had the pleasure of reading, by her.
Jessie and Asher…..
Jessie McBride is the youngest of four siblings and a pure cowgirl. While her older brothers are either doctors or a paramedic/firefighter, Jessie stays true to her heart’s desire by running the family horse aspect of the ranch. Raising and rescuing mustangs isn’t just a job for Jessie. It’s her passion. So, when she breaks her leg and is unable to work as usual, she is beyond grumpy and frustrated. Jessie is the type of person who prefers to do things herself, no matter her limitations.
Asher has been honorably discharged from the military for the last couple of years. Asher has his own issues and as a result, he is afraid to be completely honest with Jessie for fear of losing her. Unfortunately, Asher has had a past experience which makes him very hesitant of opening up to Jessie about his fears. I won’t go into any details because every aspect of Jessie and Asher’s story is entertaining and heartwarming. I truly loved Asher’s character. He was so perfect for Jessie and her stubbornness. Jessie was also perfect for Asher. Her love for him was unconditional. Their whole relationship was endearing, and believable. And boy oh boy, there were some steamy moments between them.
If you love romance with ex-military heroes and headstrong heroines, with the addition of some absolutely loving dogs, I recommend this book. Actually, I recommend this book to anyone looking for sigh-worthy ending regardless of the premise and trope.
This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. 🙂
