If you can’t stand the heat…
Lam Draeger’s deep wounds from the death of his young son and his subsequent divorce were still healing when he was saddled with his running his family’s cattle and rodeo stock ranch and the responsibility of raising his siblings and keeping them out of trouble. His every moment is devoted to running the ranch and business smoothly. He’s had no time to mourn his many losses or try to rebuild his personal life. And romance? Out of the question, no matter how sweet the temptation.
…don’t fall in love in the kitchen
Single mom Gwen Hobbs is right back where she swore she’d never be – cooking in the kitchen at the Draeger ranch just like her mom before her. But since her fiance and the father of her daughters walked out on her, taking all their savings with him, she’s forced to be practical. So she vows to ignore the attraction that hums between her and Lam and to stop dreaming of becoming a chef. But when Lam suggests she audition for a cooking competition, Gwen realizes that not all her dreams are out of reach, and her growing hopes extend far beyond a professionally tricked-out kitchen.
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Both heartwarming and adorable. 5 Stars!
This was my first book by this author. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the story. Both main characters have had a rough patch. If you’ve read the blurb, then you know that Gwen has two adorable twin toddler daughters and a low-life, deadbeat, ex fiancé. After the jerk leaves her with literally nothing, Gwen moves in with her mother and takes over the position of cooking on the ranch that she works and lives on. It’s time for her mother to have a vacation. While Gwen cooks for the large Draeger family, her mother will take advantage of the time she has getting to know her adorable grand-children. Both she and her mother are happy with that arrangement.
But guess who is not happy?
Lam was not thrilled to walk into his kitchen and find a stranger. It doesn’t matter how attractive she is. She does not have his permission to work on his ranch. So you can guess that Lam is not happy with change. But as he gets to know Gwen and her adorable daughters better, the ice around his heart slowly begins to melt. Lam has a heartbreaking story. While you know what happened, the details are revealed over the length of the book. I was glad with that aspect because part of my enjoyment of the book, and how quickly I was turning the pages, was because I wanted to know the whole story.
Gwen and Lam’s relationship grew slowly over the course of the book. It was perfect, believable, and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
Sasha Summers has a talent for storytelling that will pull you in, keep you engaged, and result in the swoon-worthy, satisfied ending we all look for in our romances. I can’t wait to read about the other Draeger siblings when their books become available. This is definitely an author I look forward to reading more of. I absolutely recommend this book. Another fantastic book from Tule Publishing!
