Summer Attwood has been hiding in baggy clothes and ugly glasses for nearly ten years. When the town hottie asks her to be his faux girl-friend for a couple of weeks she decides it’s time to put away the disguise and shine.

Cade Kipling can’t believe the beautiful woman that emerges from the cocoon of overalls and over sized glasses. If he wasn’t dead set on taking a few months to get his head on straight, after his long time abusive girl-friend dumped him, he’d be after Summer in a heartbeat.

Two weeks of dating will either kill them or change their lives forever.

📝My Review📝:

Roping Cade: Burlap and Barbed WireRoping Cade: Burlap and Barbed Wire by Shirley Penick

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Roping Cade has a different feel than the previous books in this series. The author touched on a couple of types of abuse. I won’t go into details on that because you’ll want to read it on your own.

As with the prior books, this one flowed nicely and I did find myself eating up the pages to get to the HEA. That said, I was a bit disappointed in the main characters for different reasons. Cade had been in a previous relationship where he was on and off with the woman for nearly twelve years. I tried very hard to understand his feelings regarding why he stayed so long with his ex and just couldn’t justify why. His ex walked all over him and he never stood up for himself. He believed he had a good reason for his putting up with his ex but I couldn’t see it. Sadly to say, Cade was not portrayed as a strong male lead. That said, I still adored him and rooted for him to have a happy-ever-after. He was a very likable character.

Summer had her own issues. She had secrets and I understood why she kept them. Summer had been hiding her true self for ten years. And when Cade asked her to pretend to be his girlfriend for a while, Summer practically leaps out of her shell. Cade gave her the confidence she needed to be free of her past. And Summer helped Cade to heal from his.

There are definitely bumps in the road for these two. But once both Cade and Summer can believe in themselves, they are able to move forward with each other and with new goals. I enjoyed reading this book and I am curious as to which of the remaining two siblings will get a book next. I just hope the author doesn’t keep us waiting too long.

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. 🙂
