New Orleans firefighter, Caleb Moureu had to trade body shots and hot all-nighters for sippy cups and actual up-all-night fevers when his sister was killed, leaving his niece in his care. But two years in, he’s definitely got the hang of this fatherhood thing. Of course, he couldn’t do it without nanny-turned-friend and fellow single parent, Lexi. Because of her, things have always been pretty easy.
Getting pregnant and going it alone wasn’t in Lexi’s plans, but thanks to Caleb, she’s doing okay. He’s helped her out with everything from diapers to car repairs over the years. So, when she suddenly needs a place to live, of course Caleb steps up. After all, it’s only temporary. They’re just friends. It’s just a favor, like all the others.
But for now it really is, very, very nice.
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This was the second book I’ve read in this series. Of course I read them completely out of order but that didn’t matter. That only made me want to see how the other characters found their HEA. I found this novel intense and sexy. Caleb, the hero, was a particularly intense character Caleb was dominant in every aspect of his life; always having to be in control. There were a few times throughout the book where I was frustrated with his always having to be in charge. It was a good thing that Lexi loved him so. It also didn’t hurt that she was a submissive person and liked being taken care of. Truthfully, if she wasn’t so accommodating, I doubt she and Caleb would have made it. Don’t misunderstand me because Lexi was in no way a week character. I respected her and the author did a great job with helping me understand her.
Caleb has been raising his four year old niece for the past couple of years after his sister and her husband died in a car accident. Lexi is also a single parent. Both Caleb and Lexi have been helping each other out with taking care of the children while the other one is working. They have been doing this for a while now and it worked well. Until it didn’t. I won’t give anything away however I can tell you I loved watching their platonic relationship develop into something intense and magical. The author also does a wonderful job with taking Caleb and Lexi and letting us be able to watch then grow as a couple. I absolutely loved the slow burn, tension and intense chemistry between.
From start to finish I was rooting for Caleb and Lexi to find their happily ever after. The only complaint I had with this novel is that is was very heavy on monologue. Several times I had to reread because there was so much monologue between the dialogue and I couldn’t remember what the characters were talking about. I don’t mind a book with a lot of descriptive text, but I do need a balance between monologue and dialogue. Of course that is my preference and some of you may not mind it. Regardless, I enjoyed this book. I have always enjoyed this author and will continue to read her books.
This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time ti read it. 🙂
