To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is the story of Lara Jean, who has never openly admitted her crushes, but instead wrote each boy a letter about how she felt, sealed it, and hid it in a box under her bed. But one day Lara Jean discovers that somehow her secret box of letters has been mailed, causing all her crushes from her past to confront her about the letters: her first kiss, the boy from summer camp, even her sister’s ex-boyfriend, Josh. As she learns to deal with her past loves face to face, Lara Jean discovers that something good may come out of these letters after all.
Overall I enjoyed it but I prefer the movie.
The characters were not as likable and everyone just seemed so childish it really threw me off. I feel like my expectations were too high. Here is a rundown of my character thoughts.
Book Lara Jean < Movie Lara Jean
Book Peter < Movie Peter
Book Josh > Movie Josh
Book Margot < Movie Margot
Book Kitty < Movie Kitty
Book Chris < Movie Chris
Book Gen < Movie Gen
Book Lucas < Movie Lucas
I did really like the book even though it was different than what I expected. I will continue on in the series because I want to see what happens with John Ambrose McClaren, that was left so open. Also I’m not the biggest fan of book Peter Kavinsky so I won’t be heartbroken if that isn’t the way it goes. He was supposed to be this sort of perfect boyfriend character but in reality he was kind of an asshole and not very nice. All the characters were just meh. I highly recommend the movie but the book was good too.
