Crystal Cove locals know all about second chances.
Austin Ricard had a happily ever after, until his wife passed four years ago. Relocating to her hometown to feel closer to her, he instead meets sexy, sweet Shelby Wade. Shelby bonds with his daughters, but he’s not here to start romance. Shelby and his girls have other plans and although he’s nearly old enough to be
her father, he doesn’t see Shelby as anything but the sexy, sassy second chance he never expected.
Shelby Wade has spent her life surrounded by men who try to control her. Four brothers and a stubborn father hardly let her breathe, let alone find romance. Shelby finds freedom when she meets new neighbor Austin, a much older man who knows plenty about romance. The widower and his adorable daughters not
only belong in Crystal Cove, they belong in Shelby’s life.
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
One of my favorite tropes is “single father.” There is something incredibly sexy and endearing to me with that particular genre. Father Figures tells us the love story of Shelby and Austin and the struggles they went through before their HEA. Here is where I admit, I was not a big fan of Austin, unfortunately. I understood his struggles and even his reasoning but his hot and cold frustrated me. That said, Shelby saved the day. She was so sassy, independent and kind. Shelby was also nurturing and protective of Austin’s daughters. My heart hurt for her after learning how she grew up. Despite her upbringing, Shelby was an amazing heroine. In addition to loving Shelby, Austin’s daughters stole a lot of scenes and pieces of my heart as well.
This book is the eighth in the Crystal Cove Holiday series. I love this series and the small, quaint romantic town of Crystal Cove is one that if were possible, I’d love to live in. The books in this series are all short, fast-paced reads. They each have their own intense, protective, possessive, over-the-top demanding hero. Oh, let me add they are some serious panty melting, dirty talkers as well. Also, the author does a great job with description. Many aspects of the story were picture perfect. I also loved the addition of horse training. We are horse people and are literally at the barn weekly. My husband constantly complains about the state of my car each week after leaving the stables, but we love it anyway.
Austin and Shelby start off with chemistry and attraction. While Shelby likes to flirt, Austin was a tough nut to crack. Sadly he was still suffering with the loss of his wife and his attraction to Shelby only made him feel worse. Guilt and anger at himself was causing much of his not so nice behavior. And because they had struggles with becoming a couple, when they found their happily-ever-after, that made me smile and swoon. I am so happy Austin worked through his issues and was able to be happy himself. He deserved love just as much as his daughters. Shelby gave them all her love.
I can’t wait to visit Crystal Cove again. I wonder if one of Shelby’s unattached brothers will get a story. They seem like they need the love of a good woman to keep them in line. 😉
This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. ❤
