3 TIMES THE HEAT
A Dirty Down South Novel
Genre: #Romance #SecondChanceRomance
My Rating: 4
Publication: April 16th 2018
Read: April 16th 2018 (ARC)
POV: First-person dual perspectives
I’m country, through and through. I keep to myself, minding my father’s land and take care of my two younger brothers. I like to think of myself as a law-abiding citizen. I mean – what the law doesn’t know doesn’t hurt, right?
My life was simple and neat, until little Miss Shyla showed up one day. The feisty woman was determined to put me in my place, however she was expecting to meet a boy, and not a man.
Standalone, HEA, 2nd chance romance, no cheating.
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is my first Sapphire Knight book. That said, it is not my last. Oh, no.
So there are three Owens brothers. Tyler, Nate and Clyde. 3 Times the Heat states it is book three in this series. However, I am somewhat confused because book two was Nate’s story and in book three, he is still single. I assume there was a change in release order for this series. Either way, I am looking forward to reading those other two.
I instantly fell in love with Clyde. He was the epitome of a gentlemen. Even at 12 years old. Growing into a young adult, I found him even more endearing. Clyde as an adult gives us a man who has had his heart broken. He is standofish and surly. He has good reasons for his current persona.
Shyla left Clyde right after high school and was the main reason for his attitude on life. I didn’t like her then for how she hurt Clyde. Years later, I still wasn’t her biggest fan but eventually she grew on me. Would I have done the same thing if I was in her shoes, not likely. But this is a romance novel so I get it. I’m just glad Shyla redeemed herself.
I enjoyed the storyline. The plot was well developed and had me guessing. The suspense in this novel was not too intense and it resolved in a way that I was satisfied. In fact, I hope the author will give us a story out of it.
There are sweet, sexy, and angsty moments in this novel. The chemistry between Clyde and Shyla was hot. Their relationship did not come together immediately which I appreciated. Shyla had to work for it. Her persistence was the main reason I was able to believe her sincerity.
All in all I enjoyed this book. The pace is a bit slow in place but I didn’t mind. Clyde and Shyla deserved their happily-ever-after. That all said, I do recommend this book. Who doesn’t love a dirty, talking, and sweet southern hero?
This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. 🙂
