Olivia Holman, author of the acclaimed Pirate Duke series, is having a pretty good day. In fact, she has just gotten the best phone call of her life- her book is getting turned into a movie starring Tyler Sutton.
Yes, that Tyler Sutton. You know the one. The one in the tabloids with a different supermodel on his arm every week. The one who’s funny, smart, and charming- the one Olivia can’t stop thinking about. Tyler seems intent on making Olivia his next conquest, but Olivia doesn’t want to be the latest notch on his bedpost. She resists, even as they grow closer.
Olivia is torn between her heart and her head. Could there possibly be more to Tyler Sutton than the sleazy tabloid rumors would have you believe? Or is Tyler just another smooth operator?
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
5 Stars to Smooth Operator by Jennifer Lucia.
This was my first book by this author and I really loved it! As technique goes, this book was written well. The writing flowed nicely from page to page. I was engaged from the beginning and stayed completely invested until the end. I admit there were moments in this book that frustrated me due to Olivia’s behavior however as a whole Smooth Operator was a five star for me.
Olivia is a twenty-something stay at home writer. Her historical romance book series earned her the attention of a Hollywood producer who was determined to make her books into movie. Despite the fact the process of turning her book into a movie is over her head, Olivia is excited to make this dream come true. There were some issues that she had to deal with but all in all, everything as far as the movie making, went smoothly. The problems arose when a certain, sexy, hot, and determined male lead decided to pursue her romantically. At first, I wasn’t sure of Tyler’s intentions. It’s for that reason my preferences for reading are dual perspectives. That said, as I read along, I believed, despite his flirty nature that he was genuine in his feelings toward Olivia.
Unfortunately, Olivia had issues with believing Tyler was truly interested in more than a fling. Tyler didn’t have the best reputation in Hollywood. A true player is how the paparazzi portrays him. Don’t always believe what you read because Tyler was not only sexy, gorgeous and flirtatious, he was a gentleman. Tyler was sweet and considerate. A true romantic. Sadly, Olivia was slow to pick this up. As a result, this book is a roller coaster of ups and downs. It’s take some time, but finally Olivia comes to her senses.
I enjoyed the relationship build between Tyler and Olivia. I found parts of this book to be angsty and also humorous. Also there are quite a few secondary characters, all of which added more depth and more fun to this book. All that said, Smooth Operatorwas a very enjoyable read. I love discovering new authors and Jennifer Lucia is one I would definitely read again. Hopefully her next book will continue with Nick and Vanessa who are introduced in this book.
This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it.
