A broken heart and shattered dreams…
Austin Connelly had it all: loving family, a growing and profitable business, the perfect woman warming his bed at night…
When she completely disappears from his life, well kept secrets begin to emerge. He finds out his best friend’s girlfriend is also his half-sister, and he believes someone is sabotaging his company.
Austin thought he and Nikki had something special, but when she returns suddenly announcing her pregnancy, he can’t control his hurt and anger, but the pull and attraction become too much for him to ignore and he finds himself in her arms once again. He’s thrust back into the emotions he’s held onto since Nikki left him.
Nikki Deveraux never had it easy growing up. As a part of a wealthy family where her parents cared more about their bank account and affairs than they did about their only daughter.
Watching their marriage crumble before her very eyes she swore that she’ll do whatever she can to protect herself from succumbing to that kind of pain. With no desire to find “the one”, Nikki finds herself torn between love and fear when she discovers herself pregnant.
Taking a chance on her heart, Nikki works to rebuild her relationship with Austin after running away scared and when she uncovers someone stealing money from his company she fears he’ll give up on his dream of happiness yet again.
Will he take a chance on her? Will he let her back into his heart? Or will the ghosts of his past shred him further?

Austin and Nikki…..
This is my first book by Renee Harless. I absolutely loved it! This book not only had a romantic and suspenseful story, there were amazing secondary characters as well. Since I began this series with book two, I need to go back and read book one which features Logan and Avery. I am really looking forward to reading that one. I loved meeting Logan and Avery in this book.
Austin and Nikki had a brief relationship together before she left suddenly. This story opens with Austin’s surprise and anger when Nikki returns. When she left she broke his heart and annihilated his trust. Austin now has a responsibility in the baby they created but that doesn’t mean he wants her back.
Nikki will have her hands full trying to prove to Austin that he can trust her again. Nikki believed she had good reasons for leaving the way she did. However, if she would have communicated her concerns with Austin, things would have been different.
As a personal preference, I am not a fan of a heroine that keeps her pregnancy/child a secret from the father. Something about that trope rubs me the wrong way. That said, I was not Nikki’s biggest fan as a result. As I got to know her and some of her backstory, I understood her better. I found her to be honest and sincere. Also, I liked the fact that Nikki wanted to be independent and not taken care of. I respected that given her feelings about that, she hesitantly accepted Austin’s help and kindness. Especially when he still hadn’t given her his trust yet.
Austin was an amazing hero. He was intense at times, passionate, loyal and upstanding. I truly adored him.
Aside from the angst of their own relationship and working towards fixing it, there was mystery and suspense as well. Many ‘feels’ in this book. In addition there were new characters introduced. The next book will feature another one of Austin’s sisters and a sexy FBI agent. I better hurry and catch up on book one before book three is out.
I am so happy and relieved that Nikki and Austin found their HEA. They worked hard for it and because they loved each other so much, they were able to build a life together. This was a fantastic book! I really recommend it as a ‘must’ read. Well written; steady-paced and a great cast of characters.

Renee Harless, her husband, and children live in Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. She studied Communication, specifically Public Relations, at Radford University.
Growing up, Renee always found a way to pursue her creativity. It began by watching endless runs of White Christmas- yes even in the summer – and learning every word and dance from the movie. She could still sing “Sister Sister” if requested. In high school she joined the show choir and a community theatre group, The Troubadours. After marrying the man of her dreams and moving from her hometown she sought out a different artistic outlet – writing.
To say that Renee is a romance addict would be an understatement. When she isn’t chasing her toddler around the house, working her day job, or writing, she jumps head first into a romance novel.
