Bear Seeking Bride: Thorn (Bear Canyon Series #6) by Ruby Shae

Genres: Romance, Shifter-Bear, BBW, Menage, Novella

Book six of six

Alternating POVs by all three H/h

The Blurb:

Lonely, curvy girl, Ava Redmond is flailing aimlessly after selling her dream business six months ago. A new job and a new group of friends would be wonderful, but a family is what her heart truly desires. A devoted man, who appreciates her curves and freckles, would be just what the doctor ordered to push her loneliness away.

Identical twins and bear shifters, Doctors Gavin and Hawk Thorn have been searching a long time for a mate to complete their triad. They have worked hard to succeed in both their personal and professional lives, but their success means nothing without a mate to call their own.

Tired of meeting women only interested in sex and money, Gavin and Hawk place an ad for a bride listing all of their combined redeeming qualities. Desperate for change, Ava answers an ad for a mail order bride to a seemingly perfect man. When she finds out Thorn is actually two perfect men, she must decide whether to accept their love, or run back to her boring, lonely life.

“Bear Seeking Bride: Thorn” Bear Canyon Bears by author Ruby Shae.
My Rating: 4 Stars!…

So bummed this is the last book in this series. Oh well, guess I’ll just read her North Pole Bear series next, with Christmas coming up. 🙂 Anyway, getting back to my review…this was my favorite of the series. Well duh…not only do we get one sexy bear shifter but this story has two! This is a menage romance.

Grizzly bear shifters and identical twins. What more can you ask for? Let me add that these sexy brothers, Gavin and Hawk Thorn, are wealthy doctors. Gavin and Hawk are tired of dating women who are only interested in sex and their wealth. It’s depressing and they are disgusted. This results in two lonely shifters who only want to find their mate. One perfect woman for them to share. One woman who will agree to love them both. Recently a couple of their friends found their mates by listing an add in the classifieds, successfully. Hawk and Gavin think it’s time they did the same.

Ava Redmond is living a lonely and aimless life thanks to her ex-boyfriend. What a jerk that guy is! Because she put her faith in a relationship that failed miserably, Ava lost her dream business. Her life was depressing, going nowhere. No job. No friends. No family. Ava bravely decides to answer an add for a bear shifter seeking a human bride.

Ava, Gavin and Hawk get off to a less than happy start. She was surprised to find out there were two shifters seeking bride and as a result, she believed she was the butt of a cruel joke. But thankfully these two bears convince her of their sincerity. As soon as they saw her, they knew she was meant for them. She was their mate and they needed to claim her. I wished this novella was longer. I was really invested in it when it ended and I wanted more.

The characters in this series are likable. The heroines were perfect mates for their shifter partners. They were strong despite some of their insecurities. The heroes were sexy and successful and I thought developed for novellas. Would I have liked a bit more backstory on the bears? Yes. Still, I was entertained and enjoyed this series. I have read several of Ruby’s bear series’ and enjoyed them all. I am looking forward to reading more.

Bear Seeking Bride: Drew (Bear Canyon Bears #5)

Genres:  Romance, Shifters-Bears, BBW, Novella

Book five of six

Dual POVs

The Blurb:

Lily Wellington, a curvy, rare female bear shifter, lives in Bear Canyon and works in her brother’s sandwich shop. She’d love to get married and start a family one day, especially after she sees her brother find happiness, but the only man who holds her interest is her brother’s best friend, the town sheriff, and he finds her disgusting.

Bear shifter, and town sheriff, Drew Riemann has been in love with Lily since the moment they first met. Unfortunately, he made a promise to her brother and has been paying the price for nearly four years. When Luke gets married, Drew decides he’d rather break his word than live in agony one more day.

Drew and Lily start dating, but when Lily finds out his plans for the future don’t include her, she runs. She refuses to waste time with a liar; regardless of the way he makes her feel. In an effort to move on, Lily makes a decision that puts her in a dangerous, life threatening situation. Luckily, her mate won’t let her go without a fight.

My Review:

Bear Seeking Bride: Drew (Bear Canyon Brides, #5)Bear Seeking Bride: Drew by Ruby Shae

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

“Bear Seeking Bride: Drew” Bear Canyon Brides #5 by author Ruby Shae.
My Rating: 3 Star…

This story is about grizzly bear shifters, Drew Riemann and Lily Wellington. Drew is Bear Canyon’s sheriff and Lily works with her brother Luke (book 4) at his sandwich shop. If you have read the prior books then you briefly met Drew and Lily. Of all the books in the Bear Canyon series, this was my least favorite. Not that I didn’t like it, it just felt like something was missing. Maybe a little more backstory on Drew?

Drew and Lily have known each other for years. From the beginning they was mutual attraction. Drew knew immediately that Lily was his mate but he could not act on his attraction. And that nearly killed him, seeing her everyday and not claiming her. But he was best friends with her brother and couldn’t pursue her without ruining his friendship. Drew did his best to ignore Lily. He hurt her feelings in the process. But now things are going to change. Luke, Lily’s brother recently married and is blissfully happy. Well Drew wants his HEA and he is not going to wait anymore. And he plans to tell Luke immediately.

Sweet Lily has loved Drew for so long and she wished he loved her back. But suddenly, things change and Drew tells Lily he wants to date her. He tells her that she is his, and that makes them both happy. But of course, as we expect in these romances, what happens when thing are going so well? A misunderstanding occurs and Lily freezes Drew out. Of course he has no idea why. But he is desperate to find out. He loves her, he needs her. I felt so bad for Drew at this point.

This novella is a bit darker than the others in the series. Lily made some poor choices and as a result finds herself in a life or death situation, literally. Thankfully, Drew doesn’t give up on the future they are fated to have and he comes to her rescue. That scene was pretty intense. After her rescue, Lily and Drew discuss the misunderstanding and once they get past that issue and her recovery, they find their HEA.

One last book to read! 🙂

My Review:

Bear Seeking Bride: Luke (Bear Canyon Brides, #4)Bear Seeking Bride: Luke by Ruby Shae

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

“Bear Seeking Bride: Luke” Bear Canyon Bears book #4 by author Ruby Shae.
My Rating: 3 Stars…

Book four in this series features the romance of grizzly bear shifter Luke Wellington and a BBW human woman, Caroline Madison.

Luke owns Bear Canyon’s popular sandwich shop. Luke has a past that haunts him, makes him believe that he is unworthy of love. Poor Luke is resigned to the fact that he will live a lonely life, unmated. Not only does he have his past against him but Bear Canyon has three times a many males than female shifters. And whatever humans are in town are already mated to bears.

Caroline has no trouble getting a date. Unfortunately the men she dates seem to run away after only one. She has what she describes as a loud annoying voice that turns many people off. But she can’t help that. She is who she is. But for this reason, she believes she will never find her HEA. While on vacation visiting her best friends in Bear Canyon, she meets Luke. They are instantly attracted to each other and Luke can’t get her off his mind. But after one amazing date, Luke backs off. But not for the reason Caroline thinks. Luke actually loves her voice. Still, Caroline is hurt even though she is used to rejection. She wanted to believe Luke was different. Her attraction to him was something she never felt before.

I enjoyed watching Luke find the courage to go after Caroline before it was too late and she left town. I believe he would have chased her if she did. With some prompting and advice from his sister Lily and their guardian he was determined to fix things with Caroline. He believed with all his heart that she was his mate. He would tell her about his past and pray she still wanted him.

This was another sweet, super short story in this series. I love Ruby Shae’s bear series’. When I want short, satisfying stories, I know hers will be perfect.

On to the next!!! 🙂

Genres:  Romance, Shifters-Bears, BBW, Novella

Book two of six

When his new sister suggests he meet her friend first, one look and he knows his search is over. Dawn agrees to meet Tyler, but when her worst fears come true, she knows her chance at happiness is lost forever. Tyler, however, has another plan for his beautiful soon-to-be bride.

Bear Seeking Bride: Tyler (Bear Canyon Brides, #2)Bear Seeking Bride: Tyler by Ruby Shae

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“Bear Seeking Bride: Tyler” Bear Canyon Brides #2 by author Ruby Shae.
My Rating: 4 Stars….

In this second book of the Bear Canyon Brides series, we have the story of youngest brother, Tyler Mallory and sweet, shy, curvy Dawn Wagner.

Tyler is personable, friendly and a genuine sweetheart. But Tyler is also lonely. He wants a mate, love and a few cubs. Following in his older brother’s footsteps, he decides he should place an add in the classifieds to find the mate of his dreams. Tyler is sick and tired of being pursued for his looks and wealthy shifter status. Between the few gold digging shifter females in town and the human groupies, Tyler is disgusted and frustrated. But before he gets the chance to place the add for a bride, his new sister-in-law wants him to meet one of her best friends, Dawn. Tyler is very happy to meet Dawn. He is so excited, he is practically planning their wedding already. I would say he is optimistic. Lol.

With a lot of cajoling from her friends, Dawn reluctantly agrees to a visit to Bear canyon to meet Tyler. However Dawn is very wary. She has has miserable luck with men and doesn’t think she can take more rejection. Because of her plus size, Dawn has been the victim of some very cruel jokes. I understood her wariness and insecurities. Of course she’s thinking why a wealthy, sexy, gorgeous bear shifter would want anything to do with her.

Tyler and Dawn’s story was one of my favorite in the series. Not only was Tyler hot and sexy, he was protective and loving. He was charming and witty as well. Tyler only saw beauty when he met Dawn. He loved her curves. He thought she was shy but also sweet and kind. Dawn was perfect for him. Now all he had to do was convince her that she was his “forever.” A lot easy said than done. Still I loved watching his patience with her as he knocked down the walls she guarded her heart with.

My only complaint with this super short story is that it was too short!

Bear Seeking Bride: Travis (Bear Canyon Brides) by Ruby Shae

Genres:  Romance, Shifters-Bears, BBW, Novella

Book one of six

Dual POVs

The Blurb:

In the shifter town of Bear Canyon, the men outnumber the women three to one. Grizzly bear Travis Mallory is tired of desperate shifter females, and gold-digging, shifter obsessed humans. He wants to marry, and start a family, but most of all, he wants someone to love him for him, not for what he can do for them.

Curvy, Sabrina Parker is tired of dating. Now thirty years old, she wants to get married and start a family, but she knows it won’t happen unless she breaks out of her comfort zone. She wants to meet someone who can love her, and all of her curves, for the rest of her life.

Desperate to try something new, Travis places an ad for a Mail Order Bride. The conditions listed are simple, but absolute, and he only receives one response. Despite her friend’s objections, Sabrina feels compelled to answer Travis’ ad, and a short time later he invites her to Bear Canyon to see if they’re compatible. Can two strangers find love in a modern day shifter town?

My Review:

Bear Seeking Bride: Travis (Bear Canyon Brides, #1)Bear Seeking Bride: Travis by Ruby Shae

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“Bear Seeking Bride: Travis” Bear Canyon Brides #1 by author Ruby Shae
My Rating: 3.5 Stars…

This story features sexy bear shifter Travis Mallory and Sabrina Parker. Travis is wealthy and co-owns a successful construction business with his brothers, Trent and Tyler, who are also bear shifters. Travis is the middle brother. He is lonely and has been for a while. Of course he is rich and gorgeous and basically could have any woman in the shifter town Bear Canyon. Unfortunately there are 3 times as many males than females so the pickings are slim. And anyone he has tried to go out with is only interested in one thing. His money and his body. Also the only humans living in the shifter town are already mated to other Grizzlies.

So what can Travis do? Simple. He places an add in the classifieds seeking a curvy, human woman to be his bride.

Sabrina sees the add and decides to answer it. She, too, has been lonely. Since Sabrina has nothing to lose, this is an opportunity she will take a chance on. Sabrina is a curvy heroine, larger than the average sized woman. Perfect for Travis. What I loved about Sabrina’s character was her confidence. She wasn’t like many of the BBW heroines we read about who are insecure and self-depreciating. She was happy with her body. I hate heroines that put themselves down every other page. Sabrina was confident. kind, and not afraid to take chances.

There is no suspense but just a tiny bit of angst added to the story by Travis’ brother Trent and an ex-girlfriend.

I loved Travis’ brothers, Tyler and Trent. And yes, even though Trent was quite grumpy and rude to Sabrina, I still loved him. Trent obviously had good reasons for his bad attitude. Of course we will have to wait for his book for that reveal. Tyler is sweet and sexy and I can’t wait to read his story. Sabrina’s best friends, Dawn and Caroline were likable secondary characters and it will be fun to watch them find their HEA. As a matter of fact, Tyler and Dawn’s book is next!

Bear Seeking Bride: Trent (Bear Canyon Bears #3) by Ruby Shae

Genres:  Romance, Shifter-Bear, BBW, Novella

Book three of six

Dual POVs

The Blurb:

Down on her luck, curvy chef Olive Campbell has reached the bottom of the barrel. She has no job, no money, no boyfriend and no prospects. The way things are going, she’ll never get the chance to work with food again. When she sees an ad asking for a mail order bride who can cook, it seems like her luck is beginning to change.

Grumpy, woman-hating, grizzly bear shifter Trent Mallory can’t believe the nerve of his brothers. They might be lucky in love, but that gives them no right to place an ad searching for a bride on his behalf. He may be lonely, but he’ll take a lifetime of loneliness over being faced with trusting a woman again.

Angry and confused by his brothers’ betrayal, and the revival of long buried feelings, Trent decides to prove once and for all he’s better off alone. His plan works as expected, but after meeting Olive, he can’t deny his desire for a life filled with love. Thanks to his brothers, he has two weeks to apologize and convince his curvy mate to marry him.

My Review:

Bear Seeking Bride: Trent (Bear Canyon Brides #3)Bear Seeking Bride: Trent by Ruby Shae

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

“Bear Seeking Bride: Trent” Bear Canyon Bears #3 by author Ruby Shae.
My Rating: 3 Stars…

Book three in this series gives us the story of oldest Mallory brother, Trent and Olive Campbell.

Grumpy grizzly bear shifter Trent Mallory does not believe in love, does not believe in happily ever after for good reasons. He did once and it ended very badly. (you’ll have to read the book to find out why) Trent’s two younger brothers may have found their mates but that doesn’t mean he has to follow along in their footsteps only to get burned again. When he finds out his brothers went behind his back and placed an add for a bride on his behalf, he is furious! He doesn’t want a bride so when she shows up, he will just have to make a first impression that will send her running. Unfortunately, Trent’s little drama may have cost him dearly.

Olive Campbell has pretty much hit rock bottom. No job. No Family. And almost no more money. So at this point, it’s no surprise she answers an add for a bear shifter seeking a bride. Really, she has nothing to lose and everything to gain. But of course Olive is an honest person so she will tell her intended the truth so he won’t think her to be a gold digger. She just a wants to be happy. And after all she has been through she deserves it. When Olive meets Trent at his home, she is hurt and not a little angry over his actions and words at their first meeting. Olive is curvy and larger than the average woman but she has always been confident and happy with her looks, not insecure. But Trent’s reaction to her has her wondering. She runs off dismayed and embarrassed.

I don’t blame her!

Very soon, Trent realizes he messed up. He made huge error with his treatment of Olive. Now he finds himself in a panic. How can he fix this situation? How can he get her to come back? What will he say to make her believe he is sorry for his behavior? And what will he do if she doesn’t give him another chance?

It was justifiably fun watching Trent’s character change so quickly from arrogant to groveling. He wanted Olive, so he had to lose his crude, rude, grumpy attitude. Rhyme not intended 🙂 He quickly became a man experiencing instant attraction, love at first sight and desperate to make Olive his wife. We know from the first two books in this series that Trent was mean and hated women in general. In this story we learn why. Oh. My. God!!! I was furious him. After learning what happened in his past, it was easy to forgive him and I loved him just as much as Olive did.

This was another fun shifter novella by Ruby and I can’t wait to read the next!

Melt My Heart,Cowboy: Love at the Chocolate Shop #1 by C.J. Carmichael

Genres:  Romance, Cowboy, Montana-Born

Dual POVs

The Blurb:

Who is the handsome cowboy who comes into small town Marietta’s chocolate shop every week to buy a box of chocolates? More importantly…who is he buying the chocolates for? These are the questions sales clerk Rosie Linn asks herself as she waits for her sadly neglected childhood home to sell so she can pursue an exciting new career in L.A.

Rosie finds out the answers the day rugged ranch hand Brant Willingham introduces himself and asks for her help in managing the care of his younger sister. Brant’s mother has recently died, leaving him the sole guardian of eighteen-year-old Sara Maria–who has been a puzzle to Brant ever since she began exhibiting signs of autism at age two.

Rosie and Brant come up with a plan. She’ll help with his sister if he handles repairs and a new paint job for her old house. It seems the perfect solution, but a new dilemma is created when the couple start spending time together. Brant discovers he doesn’t want Rosie to sell and leave, and Rosie fears she will have to choose between love and her dreams.

My Review:

Melt My Heart, Cowboy (Love at the Chocolate Shop Book 1)Melt My Heart, Cowboy by C.J. Carmichael

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

My Rating: 3.5 Stars!!!

I can’t say enough how excited I get when Tule Publishing releases a novel in their Montana Born Series, set in the picturesque town of Marietta. And there are so many! Some of my favorite authors write for this series and C.J. Carmichael is one of them.

Montana Born now introduces us to a new series;Love at the Chocolate Shop, featuring different authors. There are four books in the series as of now. I’m not sure if there will be more than the four.

So if you’ve read about the Carrigans of the Circle C, then you know Sage’s talent for making the most delicious chocolates at her shop on Main Street. This first novel features one of her employees, Rosie Linn and her journey to love. Rosie is leaving Marietta soon and she can’t wait. Unfortunately she has to sell her family home first. She is planning to move to California to live with her brother and follow her dreams of being a screen writer. Something she is talented at. The only thing stopping her from jumping on a plane is getting a buyer for the house.

Well…the house used to be her hesitation for leaving…

Brant Willingham, a rugged, good-looking cowboy works on a ranch out of town. Brant loves his job on the ranch even if he doesn’t own it. Recently, on Fridays, Brant drives to Marietta and his first stop is the chocolate shop where he buys chocolates from the pretty Rosie. He wishes he could ask her out but there is too much going on in his life right now. Brant’s sister is autistic and is currently living in a care facility. Brant spends his Friday evenings with Sara Maria. Brant feels guilty about keeping her in a facility but since their mother died recently, he doesn’t know how to fit her in his life and keep his current job. Brant does love his sister, he just doesn’t know how to take care of her.

Rosie and Brant come up with an arrangement that will benefit all of them. Brant will work on fixing up Rosie’s house and making it more alluring to potential buyers. He will do this in the evenings and weekends. In exchange, Rosie will agree to spend time with Sara Maria, being a friend and companion. I liked Sara Maria a lot. And so did Rosie. So this all sounds like a great plan. Easy, right? The only problem is Rosie and Brant are trying to remain friends despite that they are attracted to each other. They shouldn’t be anything more when Rosie is leaving Marietta for good.

I enjoyed watching these two give into their attraction. They knew they shouldn’t but did anyway. Of course their growing feelings for each other complicate things. There are several obstacles that they had to overcome before they could have their HEA. The very end was a little rushed for me. I would have liked a bit more. That said, I’m sure we’ll get a peek of what they’re up to in the following novels of the series.

Currently listed on Tule’s website:
Love at the Chocolate Shop series:
“Melt My Heart, Cowboy” by C.J. Carmichael 10/6/16
“A Thankful Heart” by Melissa McClone 11/3/16
“Montana Secret Santa” by Debra Salonen 12/1/16

Forever Rome by Brittney Sahin

Genres:  Contemporary Romance, Sports-Soccer

Written in heroine’s POV

The Blurb:

A football fanatic sports columnist. A sexy Italian soccer player. When in Rome . . .

Maggie Lane, a sports columnist and diehard football fan, is not exactly enthused when her editor-in-chief sends her to Rome, Italy, to write a feature story on Italian soccer star Marco Valenti. The last thing she wants to do is spend three weeks covering soccer right before the American football season begins. But Maggie’s job becomes a lot more appealing after meeting a sexy Italian man on her first night there.

One hot kiss and she is done for . . . but once Maggie discovers her mysterious Italian is Marco Valenti, she’s not sure if she’ll be able to write her story objectively, or if she’ll even have to. Marco stuns the world when he announces his retirement, and without an explanation as to why, rumors fly and the tension mounts. Despite Maggie’s protests, she is forced to stay, but with each passing day, she becomes enchanted with the beautiful city, as well as finds herself breaking her cardinal rule—never fall for a player.

As Maggie learns the truth about Marco, she has to make a decision: protect him or keep her job. Will Marco be able to trust her with his secrets? Can she trust him with her heart?

Forever RomeForever Rome by Brittney Sahin

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4.5 Stars! “Forever Rome” by author Brittney Sahin.
**I received a copy of this novel by the author in exchange for an honest review**

This was a beautiful, romantic novel set in the beautiful city of Rome. Very well written in all aspects. By the end of this story I was smiling in satisfaction and relief; so happy our H/h got their HEA. I also enjoyed the fact that our couple, Marco and Maggie, wanted to be together but both had conflicts that made for an entertaining, angsty and complex story. All good…

Maggie Lane is a writer for a big name men’s health and sports magazine. Maggie loves her job despite the fact she feels she has to work harder for respect and recognition given that sport’s reporting is typically a “man’s” job. Maggie is being sent to Rome to cover a story involving a famous Italian soccer player, Marco Valenti. She is less than thrilled with having to cover soccer when she is a die hard football fan. Maggie knows little to nothing about soccer or the athlete she is to write about and doesn’t understand why she has to do it. Her boss is well aware of this fact and yet he is sending her instead of one of the other reporters who is experienced with writing about the sport. Why is that? Hmm….

Marco Valenti…tall, dark, handsome. A famous soccer player for Rome, a top player and the captain of his team. Not only is Marco a talented player, he loves the game. So why then is he retiring while in his prime? If this is what he wants, why is he so torn over it? I spent a lot of this book trying to uncover Marco’s secret.

Before Marco even announces his retirement, he meets Maggie one evening in the hotel bar. Neither know who the other is. Both keeping their conversation casual but somewhat evasive.

They share a brief, but intense goodnight kiss.

What follows is a romantic drama with conflict and a complex storyline. It’s so easy to see these two are meant for each other. Yet, they both need to keep the relationship professional for good reasons. Maggie was a great heroine. She stayed true to her beliefs of wrong and right. She did not let herself be pushed into anything unethical. Her conscience and instincts kept her grounded. I completely respected and admired her.

I have to admit that although I was irrevocably in love with Marco by the end of the book, it took some time for me to get there. He had secrets. He was aloof at times. Marco frustrated me with some of his responses and actions. I believe had this novel had his POV as well, I would have connected with his character much sooner. I would have loved to know what he was thinking.

I just want to add that I personally enjoy books more when I have both H/h POVs. But that is only my preference and the fact that this novel only had Maggie’s POV did not in any way effect my rating in a negative way. I enjoyed the writing style and the pace of the story was steady. I will definitely read more from this author.

That being said, this was a beautiful story, set in the romantic city of Rome and I’m glad I got to read it.
