Lassoing The Mail Order Bride by Alexa Riley

29494600

Genres: Cowboy Romance, Contemporary, Erotic, Novella

The Blurb:

When Clare Stevens walked onto the McCallister ranch, she expected her life to be a certain way. She was the mail-order bride of the owner, and she was to fulfill her duties. Clean the house, cook for his men, and warm his bed at night. What she didn’t expect was the beefy cowboy who walked in and literally swept her off her feet.

Cash McCallister didn’t have time to date and find a wife. So a mail-order bride seemed the easiest way to find a partner. He thought he’d made a mistake until he laid eyes on the little piece of sunshine that lit up his life. He never imagined a true love like this. He never knew an obsession could take hold so tightly.

When drama hits the farm and their fast love is threatened, can Clare and Cash hold it together?

Warning: This is literally as cliché as it sounds…and just as awesome. It’s country living with high-calorie foods and easy sunsets. Come sit on the porch and stay a while. You’ll like what you see.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Loved this!!!!
5 Hell Yeah Stars!!!

Lassoing the Virgin Bride by Alexa Riley is great read.
So here we go with yet another mail order bride novel. I’ve always liked the idea/fantasy of mail order brides. I’ve read some novels that were good and some not so good. Well this one falls into the “great” category. At least I feel that way! Seriously, this story was funny and sexy and oh so adoringly sweet!

Cash Mcallister wanted a wife and family. Most of all, he didn’t want to be lonely anymore…awe…sigh. Mack was busy, working very long hours running his ranch. He was not one for the dating scene so he applied for a mail order bride.

Claire Stevens, a lone young woman who recently lost her mother to illness. Claire feared she had no alternatives so she decided being a mail order bride was the solution for her. She would cook and clean and keep her husband happy in all ways.

When these two meet for the first time? It was funny. Cash had me laughing at his ridiculous antics and kept me that way through the whole story. He was just adorable! A total book boyfriend! Please don’t misunderstand me thinking he wasn’t alpha enough because HOLY HELL HE WAS! He was intense, protective, possessive, jealous but he was also loyal, loving and tender. Their chemistry was hot, their intimacy was attentive and affectionate.

Do you like quick reads that will make you giddy and keep you smiling? How about steamy and ovary exploding as well? Yep, I actually said that! Well if you do, this novel will be perfect for you. Cash and Claire were very likable characters. There were some sweet secondary characters, as well a a couple of troublemakers. Towards the end there is something we find out about Cash that endears him to me even more! The story was well written, and fast paced with an easy flow. My only complaint was that I didn’t want it to end.

My Review:

Into the Nothing (Broken Outlaw, #1)Into the Nothing by B.T. Urruela

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.75-4 Stars!
“Into The Nothing,” is the first solo novel by Author BT Urruela. This novel is listed as romance but there is a strong focus on crime, mystery and suspense. Based on the blurb you have a good idea of what this story is about, however there were some twists and turns of a darker nature that I didn’t see coming.

Xander was a man with a less than stellar past in which he made many mistakes, some of which he apparently hadn’t learned from. That being said, I still liked him and I was praying all the while that he would get his HEA. No one in this life is perfect; we all do stupid things! However, Xander didn’t deserve every tragic thing that happened to him. He was a wanderer with no roots or any hope for his life to be anything but what it was. Then he met Paige and her family.

Ok, so Paige was not my favorite character. I found her hard to like. She was forward and pushy and most of all, when it mattered, she let me down…as well as Xander.

With the exception of the first few pages, the first half of the book was a bit slow with the last 20% picking up. I was tapping my Kindle pretty quickly by that point. There were many parts of the story I liked and a couple that I struggled with. One negative aspect for me was because of the blurb and the first few pages, we knew what happened to Xander. Because of that I was too focused on waiting for that “ball” to drop, concentrating on the who, when, and where rather than the story. But that is just me! I need to know my HEA is on the horizon. “Into The Nothing” pulled some new emotions from me causing me to step out of my comfort zone. Whether that is just something particular to my tastes or not, it is not a reflection on the author’s writing. I want to made that understood. The good point…is now I know what I can expect from the next book in the series; the writing style of the author. And I will read the next book, however I’ll be going into it with an altered perspective. And that’s a good thing.

This novel was written in both H/h POV’s which is my preferred style to read. But in this case, I think I would have liked this one to be from Xander’s POV only. I felt strongly that this was “his” story. All in all, I was glad I read this novel. It was a bit darker than I’m used to but I really liked it.

My Rating…3.75-4 Stars!

SPOILER ALERT REGARDING SOME TRIGGERS! ONLY CONTINUE TO READ THIS IF YOU ARE EFFECTED BY TRIGGERS!!!!……

Or should she set Mack free, live with a broken heart, and give up her dream of buying her own vet practice in Spring River Bend, Montana?

My Review:

His Troublesome Bride (BBW Western Romance - Millionaire Cowboys 5)His Troublesome Bride by Jenn Roseton

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“His Troublesome Bride,” book five in the Millionaire Cowboys series by Jenn Roseton can be read as a stand-alone. This novella is about Mack Colton a rancher and Paige Honeywood a vet.

Mack has had more than just a small attraction to Paige. Over the past year they have gotten to know each other and became good friends. Unfortunately Mack has had enough of being stuck in the friend zone and he plans on changing that real soon now that Paige needs to get married in order to receive her inheritance. She needs that money so she can buy her bosses’s practice.

Paige has secretly crushed on Mack however, she refuses to do anything about it because one, she doesn’t want to chance ruining their friendship if Mack doesn’t feel the same. Second, Paige has such unbelievably low self-esteem; Mack couldn’t possibly want a woman with curves.

This is a trope we’ve seen many times before. Overall, I enjoyed this story. I especially loved Mack. He was loyal and sweet and sexy and smart as well. However, Paige didn’t pull the same feelings out of me. While I understood her fears of rejection and low self-esteem, constantly hearing her complain about it became tiresome, putting too much focus on that. All that being said…this was a quick, sweet read with a HEA.

There is one more book in this series that tells us what’s in store for youngest brother, Rem. I will definitely be looking for that one.

My Review:

Rough Rider (Hot Cowboy Nights)Rough Rider by Victoria Vane

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“Rough Rider” is the second book in the Hot Cowboy Night series by author Victoria Vane. The story of Dirk and Janice starts ten years prior when they are in their very early twenties. I would say the first half of the book is the development of our characters. I don’t usually like novels that jump years ahead but in this story it was necessary. As a matter of fact while this book can be read as a standalone, I recommend you read the first book in this series, “Slow Hand.” In the first book, you will meet Dirk as a bitter, angry, frustrated man. That being said, the first half of Dirk’s story told in the past is necessary. Janice always loved Dirk but he was oblivious. It didn’t help that he was in a long time relationship with another woman. But as typical, one night changes everything. And while that could have been a good thing, it didn’t turn out that way. Now in the present when they meet again, there is wariness and mistrust as well as hope. Dirk had some very legitimate issues he was dealing with but as soon as he admitted to himself what he wanted from life, he became the man I always knew he was meant to be. By the end of this novel, I was so in love with Dirk. I wanted to make him happy and show how good things could be once he learned to trust. He was a man who deserved good things. His character was flawed but his morals were strong and I loved that about him. Janice was good for him, she was always good for him but unfortunately life throws curves, then add misunderstandings to the mix and people have to go their own ways. What makes love worth it is the fact they find each other again. Dirk and Janice were honest and likable characters. Their chemistry was real and believable. Lord, Dirk was so sexy 🙂 This was my second novel by Victoria Vane and I loved it even more than the first.

Slow Hand: Hot Cowboy Nights #1 by Victoria Vane

17732015

Genres: Western Contemporary Romance, Erotica

The Blurb:

In rural Montana…

Wade Knowlton is a hardworking lawyer who’s torn between his small-town Montana law practice and a struggling family ranch. He’s on the brink of exhaustion from trying to save everybody and everything, when gorgeous Nicole Powell walks into his office. She’s a damsel in distress and the breath of fresh air he needs.

Even the lawyers wear boots…

Nicole Powell is a sassy Southern girl who has officially sworn off cowboys after a spate of bad seeds-until her father’s death sends her to Montana and into the arms of a man who seems too good to be true. Her instincts tell her to high tail it out of Montana, but she can’t resist a cowboy with a slow hand…

My Review:

“Slow Hand” is my first novel by author Victoria Vane. This particular novel is the first in The Hot Cowboy Nights series. I really enjoyed it. It’s no secret that I love cowboy romances, not just the cowboys but the scenery as well. I’m mighty partial to Montana. 🙂 So this novel tells the story of Wade and Nikki. Wade is a lawyer/cowboy, the latter of the two is an obligation. One which he doesn’t care for. All he wants is to convince his brother and father to sell the financially burdened family cattle ranch. Wade wants to pursue other things and he can’t if he’s continually throwing his own money into the struggling ranch. Born and raised in Georgia, Nikki, has recently been notified that her estranged father, who lives in Montana, has died. So now she must travel two-thousand miles to settle his affairs. Both Nikki and Wade are dealing with loss, regret, and guilt. Could they learn to trust each other and move on? The road is long and paved with pessimism on Nikki’s part. Wade, on the other hand is willing to put aside his fears and give their relationship a chance. However, he wants that on his terms. There is definitely struggle between these two and there were times I became frustrated, especially with Nikki. Hey I totally believe that if you have nothing left to lose, give things a chance. Well, Nikki was not so easy to convince. I’m glad that Wade wouldn’t let her walk all over him but on the other hand, he knew a good thing and wasn’t about to let the opportunity pass. “Slow Hand” was a realistic story with believable characters and real life struggles. I am planning to continue this series with Wade’s brother’s story next.

Claimed by the Mountain Man by Frankie Love

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Novella, Mail-Order Bride

The Blurb:

Everly,” he growls. “I’m claiming you as mine, right here, right now.”

SILAS   I want a wife who knows what it means to live off the grid, cook my food, and keep my bed warm.

In exchange, I’ll give her a lifetime of happiness in the form of my c*ck.

But d*mn, Everly’s more than I bargained for and I don’t think she has any idea what it means to be mine. Hell, I wanted a wife, but I’m not sure I know how to live with a woman.

EVERLY   Did I expect to be a mail-order bride at twenty-two? No. But honestly, my life could be a helluva lot worse. The agency says this Alaskan mountain man is rich, hot as heck, and willing to pay off my student loans.

I’m crossing my fingers he’s everything I signed up for.

But I may be a little over my head. Mostly because I’m marrying a stranger and also because I’ve never dated. Period.

Clearly I have no clue how to be a wife … but it’s too late to back out now.

*WARNING: This story features a mountain man who knows exactly what he wants. And how he wants it. Don’t one-click if you want a tame mail order bride story … this is a classic Frankie Love romance … steamy as hell with a HEA.

My Review:
Claimed By The Mountain Man: A Modern Mail-Order Bride RomanceClaimed By The Mountain Man: A Modern Mail-Order Bride Romance by Frankie Love

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“Claimed By The Mountain Man” is my first read from author Frankie Love. This novella was a fun take on the Modern Day Mail Order Bride trope. For an approximately 119 page novella with little to no character backstory, I found myself engaged in the story and liking both main characters, Silas and Everly. This is a sweet story that was not as over-the-top or unrealistic as some of the intense instalove/lust novellas I have read in the past. Usually, like many of us, I want my romances to bring out all the “feels” that make a novel worth reading. With novellas we know going in, that that is not always possible due to the novella’s length. That being said, I have to admit “Claimed,” had enough that I found myself disappointed when it ended. Both Silas and Everly were likable and had strong chemistry that was realistic making me want more story for them. I will definitely read more from this author and I recommend this novella to anyone looking for a sweet, sexy, fun and even romantic read with no angst and a satisfying HEA.

Yours by Jasinda Wilder

Genres: Contemporary Romance, NA,

The Blurb:

When my husband Oliver died, my life ended. My purpose, my passion, my everything bled out with him on the side of the Pacific Coast Highway.

Ollie was an organ donor. His eyes, his brain, his lungs, his heart…parts of my Ollie went out and saved lives.

Then His heart, beating in another man’s chest, found its way back to me, and I found myself faced with an impossible choice: hold on to the pain and beauty of the past and the memory of the man I loved, or reach for a bold new
future, knowing each heartbeat will be a reminder of all I’ve lost.

•••

I wasn’t supposed to live past thirty.

My grandfather died at forty-five. Heart failure.

My father died at thirty-five. Heart failure.

The doctors told me my whole life that I wouldn’t see my thirty-first birthday. My heart was going to give out. It was just a matter of time: a rare blood type and an unusually large heart meant essentially zero chance of a transplant.

I proved them all wrong…by dying on my thirty-first birthday.

And then I woke up, alive, with another man’s heart inside my chest, and his widow on my conscience.

I spent my whole life preparing for death, and now I have to learn how to live. Only, as I soon discovered, living is the easy part.

Loving, and allowing myself to be loved…well, that’s a whole lot harder.

My Review:

YoursYours by Jasinda Wilder

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 OMG Amazing Stars! This book freaking wrecked me! (in the very best way of course)
Jasinda Wilder is my “go to” author for emotions of the gut-wrenching, heartbreaking, sobbing like a baby variety. Yeah…um…I was already reaching for the tissue box at only 3% into the book. This may sound contrary and ridiculous how much I love this author but I need to space her books out. I can only take so much heartbreak at one time.
So if you’ve read the blurb, you already know that our heroine, Niall loses her beloved husband Oliver. Ollie was an organ donor. Our hero, Lock, has been told his whole life that because of a congenital heart issue he won’t live past thirty. And because of the circumstances of his condition and the fact he has one of the rarest blood types, making it unlikely he’ll find a donor, Lock lives his life carelessly and irresponsibly. Do I blame him? No. At one point, Lock wakes up in the hospital after his heart gives out only to find himself surprisingly alive but the recipient of a new heart. Ollie’s heart. Previously living his life like every day could be his last; recklessly with no thought for the future, Lock feels like a lost soul. He has no idea what to do with his life; he has no direction. Because Lock has no goals yet, no idea what he will do with his life, he believes himself unworthy of a woman’s love. Of Niall’s love. Niall, whose husband’s heart beats within him. God, Lock was such a lost soul, my heart broke for him. The author captured realistic emotions in both Lock and Niall. I was there every moment of the story with them. I wanted to hug them and hold their hands. I wanted to tell them everything would work out but I couldn’t because I didn’t even know myself where their story would lead. Niall was just as lost and broken as Lock with no goals or direction for a future. Niall only survived; she wasn’t living or feeling. Not until Lock came into her life. Niall and Lock’s path to love was filled with regret, guilt and fear. There were many obstacles they needed to overcome. I loved that the author did not rush the romance or make it easy but instead focused on the way Niall and Lock found their paths, separately and then together. This novel taught me to never take what we have for granted no matter how small, no matter how little we think we have because there is always those that have much less. Unfortunately this world is filled with horror and evil and heartbreak. Lock and Niall are more than deserving of a HEA. They are heroes in every way that matters! “Yours” was thought-provoking, eye-opening, gut-wrenching and swoon-worthy all wrapped up in one beautifully written novel.

The Promise of Forgiveness by Marin Thomas

Genres: Contemporary, Woman’s Fiction, Mystery, Romance

The Blurb:

When it comes to family, Ruby Baxter hasn’t had much luck. The important men in her early life abandoned her, and any time a decent boyfriend came along, she ran away. But now Ruby is thirty-one and convinced she is failing her teenage daughter. Mia is the one good thing in her life, and Ruby hopes a move to Kansas will fix what’s broken between them.

But the road to redemption takes a detour. Hank McArthur, the biological father Ruby never knew existed, would like her to claim her inheritance: a dusty oil ranch just outside of Unforgiven, Oklahoma.

As far as first impressions go, the gruff, emotionally distant rancher isn’t what Ruby has hoped for in a father. Yet Hank seems to have a gift for rehabilitating abused horses—and for reaching Mia. And if Ruby wants to entertain the possibility of a relationship with Joe Dawson, the ranch foreman, she must find a way to open her heart to the very first man who left her behind.

My Review:

The Promise of ForgivenessThe Promise of Forgiveness by Marin Thomas

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A truly beautiful story of love and forgives. This was not the usual type of romance I read and prefer. Another words, romance was not the focus of this novel. With that being said, there were things I liked and even disliked about this story. I should say that after having read the blurb and several Goodreads reviews, I knew going in this would be different. Because I like author Marin Thomas, I read it anyway. Our main character Ruby has recently discovered she was adopted, after receiving a letter from the man who gave her away thirty years ago. Her birth father, Hank. Needless to say, Ruby is shocked and angry so she decides to go and see him. Nearly everyone Ruby has loved has let het down, left her. She doesn’t trust easily if at all. Mia is Ruby’s fifteen year old daughter who Ruby raised on her own. I have to say that Hank was, hands down, my favorite character in this story. Nearly every time Ruby got him to open up about the past, my eyes teared. My heart broke over and over for Hank. I wanted to jump into the pages and hug this man hard! In addition to all the sadness in the story there was some mystery going on as well that fit nicely. So, yes, I did enjoy this story; it was well rounded and pulled many different emotions from me. However, it did not have the HEA that usually satisfies me. I would have appreciated an epilogue just to ease my mind that everything was going to continue to work out. For example, Hank was in poor health and I wanted (no needed) to know that he lived for many more years. As for the romance growing between Joe and Ruby? There could have been a bit more to that as well. At one point Joe left, (you’ll have to read to find out why) then came back to tell Ruby he wanted to be with her. But he never said those three important words. Did I believe he loved Ruby? I do but hearing him say the words, especially after she did, would have been appropriate. One other issue with this story that fell a bit short for me was how the mystery was resolved so quickly in the last chapter. I wanted to know for sure that the villains got what they deserved. Ruby had a personality that made it very difficult for me to like her. That being said, I’m still glad she along with Mia, Joe and especially Hank were happy at the end.

Genres:  Contemporary Romance, Military, Second Chances, Erotic

Dual POVs

The Blurb:
The right love is worth the wait.

Sierra
Seven years have passed since I fell for Boone West. The brooding bad boy. We were friends, even when I secretly wanted more, but I settled for what he offered. After he left Wyoming–and me–I grew up. Moved on. Or so I believed until he blew back into my life with the scorching force of an Arizona desert wind.

I’m not that innocent sixteen-year-old girl anymore–I’m a businesswoman who swore never to settle again. But this older, wiser, hotter version of Boone unsettles me. How am I supposed to resist his megawatt smile and his built-army-strong body? Especially when he’s inserting himself into every aspect of my life? Now he’s determined to prove he can offer me everything that he couldn’t before–and he’s the only man that can fix the heart that he broke.

Boone
Joining the army? Best decision I ever made. Even though it meant I had to leave her behind. Sierra McKay. The wide-eyed beauty, who saw more in me than I saw in myself. I didn’t dare offer her anything more than friendship, because one kiss, one touch and I wouldn’t have had the guts to go.

I’ve worked hard to become the man I am. I have a career. A purpose. After a chance encounter with the one woman I never forgot–I’m not leaving anything else to chance. Now that I’ve chased her across three states, I’m ready to demonstrate that the passion we couldn’t act on before burns hotter than ever between us. And I’ll use every weapon in my arsenal to show Sierra McKay that she’s always been mine.

My Review:

26171372  🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This novel was amazing! I loved everything about it. There is so much I want to write about how much I loved this novel and why. No matter what I write, I’m pretty sure my review won’t do it justice. You know how every once in awhile (more often if you’re lucky), a novel comes along that brings on that big “sigh” not only at the end but throughout? Well “Unbreak My Heart” was that for me. This is one of those second chance stories that I love. Lorelei managed to bring out all the “feels” for me. We all love the trope of second chance love but for me, there is one thing that ruins the coming together of our H/h. And that is when our heroine is a pushover and forgives the hero for shattering her heart in the past, too soon and too easily. I need to believe the remorse. There needs to be groveling! But that did not happen here. For reasons I won’t say, Boone West had to leave Sierra Daniels McKay behind when they were teenagers. It wrecked her. Boone comes back into her life seven years later looking for a second chance. Does Sierra forgive easily? Hell no! Our boy had to put in a lot of effort. Grovel he did. When Sierra and Boone finally give in to their feelings, I was smiling like a goofball. 🙂 That being said, the development of their relationship was believable and honest. There was no angst involving secondary characters. From the beginning, Boone and Sierra confided their fears and hopes for their future. Boone’s backstory broke my heart. He was an amazing man, full of loyalty, love and hope, something he never had before now. His childhood was shitty and that’s an understatement. Sierra annoyed me occasionally because she analyzed her emotions too often however I understood why. I loved that she was loyal to Boone and understanding of his past, empathizing rather than pitying Boone. I have read eleven of Lorelei’s novels and have a lot more on my TBR list. Her writing style flows, keeps you turning pages and there is substance and depth. You just know she does her research. Lorelei’s love scenes are steamy and dirty BUT tender and tasteful at the same time. And there were a lot of them. So if all that wasn’t enough to add Boone to my book boyfriend list, the fact that he loves to nuzzle did. “Unbreak My Heart” was a swoon worthy novel with insatiable characters and a love so strong I teared up. I would definitely re-read this.

Oh, and guess what? This is the beginning of a new series. Lorelei introduced us to some sexy secondary characters that I can’t wait to learn more about in their own novels.

My Rating…5+++Stars!!!
